my surname is "bosi" and i have a degree i physics. "bosone" is an elementary particle with an integer spin... even my friends call me bosone!
but don't ask me a lesson in elementary or quantum mechanic physics, because i have studied it an university 5 years ago and i have forgot almost everything (to make space in my brain for the MIDI protocol and for the Sonar keybindings!)

Well my original name was, well my name, so i decided to change it. i'd started using VALIS a bit round the internet and was about to change my planetz nick to that when i found someone beat me to it - you know who you are! (i'm a big Dick fan too - er, that came out wrong).

Anyway the band i'm in is called Church of Orson (both i and the other founding member are huge Orson Welles fans and it was a little bit of a joke name and stuck).

So, Mr Arkadin? Well it's a lesser known film by Lord Orson (European title: Confidential Report) and i wanted to keep the Orson Welles theme going plus avoid the more obvious Citizen Kane moniker.

Mr A

PS. It's pronounced Mister (obviously) R-kar-din (although one character in the film does pronounce it R-kad-in.

lol sorry Mr.A....it has occured to me occasionally to change valis as its in use by many other people. However so far I've found the places I care about haven't forced me to change. I wasn't aware it was because I was 'beating people to it' tho, so to speak.

I'd say your name is rather distinctive in any case

I agree!!

And thank you Bosone for telling me/us the proper way to pronounce your "nick".

I myself have always wondered about this.

by Herr Voigt
As my elder brother visited me at the theatre where I worked, he was very amused when he heard calling: "Herr Voigt to stage, please."
He always says Charly to me, but my real name is Thomas.
"Herr Voigt" was also an idea of me because there existed a Fraulein Menke in the 80s (Neue Deutsche Welle). I've never heard this music cos I studied classical music at this time but this name is great. So I decided to take a similar nickname.
Btw, the "i" in "Voigt" is muted, it's written only to stre-e-etch the "o". So you'd have to speak [fo:kt]. In the Dutch language there exist similar cases (Maeterlinck etc.)
@ Kensuguro: When I was in Peking I made a similar experience about names. We were guided by some girls, they spoke an excellent german. But they called herselves Inga or Monica. That was very funny for us, but we would never be able to speak their chinese names correctly because of the high and low vocals, this difficult up and down melody. It's really hard to learn for an European.
Greetz, Thomas

that's a nice intro for me as that Fraulein had her biggest hit with an ironic song about high mountains, beautiful landscapes and of course Mr. Luis Trenker

Astroman is a famous climb in Yosemite California

Climbing is my favourite sport, and though the one in the link above would scare me to death, it's extremely tempting, a kind of ultimate challenge.

As a schoolboy I did a lot of sky exploration with a telescope (and sometimes still annoy people on walks under starry skies in holidays with one or the other unrequested detail...) and there's that loose relation to Bowie's Starman.
My favourite at that time and I always remember the sound of the riff in the old tube radio - strangely nothing comes close to that

cheers, Tom

I was trying to think up a name the
first time I was picking an email
address around 7 years ago.
The Spice Girls came on the television.

I suppose I'm the "Scary Spice"
of planet Z.

Me and an ex-girlfriend used to have a goldfish - we called it 'mr swim'. Anyway, this fish was pretty remarkable. One hot summer's afternoon, my then-girlfriend came into the kitchen to find it lying on the sideboard. It had obviously been there a while because when she tried to pick it up, she found it had dried onto the surface, and had to be scraped up with a spoon !

Any sane person would have thrown it straight out for the cats, but being a bit squeemish, she just threw it back into the fishtank.

After about 4 hours, mr swim started wobbling about a bit. After two days, he was sort of swimming (sideways, still floating). Eventually, he was swimming quite normally, although mainly in one direction - one half of his body had turned black, and didn't work so well ... but hey ! Fish are like that, aren't they ?

Having recovered completely, mr swim lived another two years ...

in memoriam,

Will.
