@Astro, I also have a Philips (but 17# CRT), at my pc, and it's terrible, you can experience those interference 'waves' on the screen
I should not have bought it!
BTW, I took you wrong indeed, about the Aldi thing

all 19" TFT below €300,- there.
quite cheap indeed.
Anyone knows if these models offer the same longterm quality?
What about fallout of screen transistors?
Or is it just a thing of low wages etc.?
Hard questions probably, who knows much of this part of the market, sigh

Today the news reported a profit fall for Philips (which is Dutch), in the first quarter of '05.
This was mainly caused by the price fall of TFT's.
The spokesman of Philips said overproduction on the world TFT market is the reason for that.
He expected better results in the second half of the year, as TFT's are getting payable for large groups of consumers now.

My guess therefor is, it's a good moment now to step into TFT
If the market finds a new equilibrium after the summer, the prices will stabilize for some months, maybe untill higher resolution screens will get common.
...True, I don't have any clues about all this, but it gives me a good feeling

I'm also at the point to buy a digital camera, man it's unbelievable how much prices did fall in hardly 2 years.
A friend of mine bought a Nikon 4,x pixel camera for €650,- two years ago, now you get a 5.1 pixel Nikon for €180,-!
My choice will be a HP R707, price is now €190,-.
Imagine, A 1 gig SD memory card is almost half of the camera price
Funny world

yes, phillips is dutch, but i'll bet most of their products and all of the reasonably priced ones are made at least partially in china. scratch partially, mostly or all in china.

sure, but I need *something* to be proud of
no, it was a useless addition, tho it could be the reason it was a news item on national tellie

Yesterday Anton Philips, son of the original founder, celebrated his 100th birthday, reason for some retrospective documentaries about his renewing 'social entrepreneurship'.
You know PSV, at the moment in the UEFA half finals?
Philips Sport Vereniging... one of his products, BTW now with two Korean players brought in by coach Guus Hidding
