Maybe this is old news, but I just found out that Samplitude was once bought by emagic
Samplitude was never bought by Emagic, all they had was a distribution deal.
And they couldn't keep that going either

Man.. It's hard any distributer would make thier software so HARD to buy! Magix USA doesn't do international, and Magix UK mails to Jamaica, and Jibuti, but NOT Japan. And I can't read the other countrys' Magix site cuz it's like German or French!
Oh well, I contacted Magix USA so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Why don't you go directly to Magix Germany?

that's what I've done (Sam for Rent)

Grok, can you PM me your email address? I want to discuss the sam for rent option in more detail.
What I don't understand is, for samplitude pro,
monthly fee of $39.9 X the minimal 25 month is $997.5. And to buy out, you need to pay 399, so that's a total of 1398. Unless you buy out at some point, you'll end up paying $749 every 2 years. (that's like buying a full package every 2 years)
The only way for the rental route to be cost effective, is if the "updates" within the contracted 2 years exceed $399. Or else, you could have used the $999 spent on the rental, to buy the product.
Situation gets tougher for the 3rd and 4th years. Since you've already paid $999 in rental fees, you basically could have purchased your copy, but now, you have to pay $749. For the 1st and 2nd year, updates had to exceed $399 for the rental to be better than purchasing, but for the 3rd and 4th year, the "update" costs have to exceed $749, and plus the $399. That's a total of $1148 worth of updates in 4 years.. (I constantly include the buy-out $399 because otherwise you keep on paying $749)
If you bought sam pro, and had to pay for $1148 worth of patches and updates in 4 years, that's still kind of expensive in terms of running costs.
So in a 4 year span,
purchase route costs
$999+however much the updates cost
and the rental route costs
$999+$749=$1748
and if you don't want to loose your copy, that's another $399
total of $2147.
It's hard to imagine that the updates would add up to $1148 in a 4 year span.. or maybe it will. Bottom line for the purchase route is that if you stop updating, you atleast get to keep the product without the $399 buy-out fee.
So, I was curious as to how you figured rental was better. I guess the best would be to see the first non free update come out and check out its price.
By the way, the magix site points to the US and UK magix site for the purchase.

As it is written in the SFR page:
http://www.samplitude.com/de/sfr3.htm
"During the 25 month rental period, you will receive two upgrades normally chargeable to buyers of the commercial version. Over time that works out to just 40% of the recommended retail price and savings that amount to around € 800 by renting Samplitude professional. Free quarterly improvements plus the advantages that come with being a first mover round off a great deal.
There is no pre-payment or additional interest to meet. During the first year, new customers pay € 479.88. This includes the annual Samplitude professional upgrade that is normally chargeable. Even without taking interest advantages and the like into account, that’s a saving of more than € 900."
That's what I read
I think Magix policy is to give advantage to their renters, maybe it's for some Banking purposes...In this way they could prevail themselves of a stable and visible amount of customers
Knowing how PCs changes in 2 years, and knowing in these 2 years I'll always have the last up to date Samplitude Professional's version, I felt that the SFR was good for me...
If I bought Sam Pro 7: 999€, and upgrade one time a year, in 2 years it would cost me: 999€ + 900€ = 1899€ Max
or, considering the prices that can be seen there:
http://www.samplitude.com/de/v7_update.htm
(particularly the "Upgrade prices for Samplitude Producer 2496 6.0 owners" to Sam pro 7 = 250€
999€ + [2 x 250]€ = 1499€ Min
With the SFR, I'll spend in 2 years: 39,9€ x 24 = 957,6€
And then (if 2 more years SFR): 29,9€ x 24 = 717,6€
So SFR for Sam Pro will cost in 4 years: 1675,2€
If I bought Sam Pro 7 and then upgrade one time a year, it would cost me in the smallest hypothesis:
999€ + [4 x 250]€ = 1999€ spent in 4 years, perhaps much more
I don't know right now, but maybe I'll be a Sam Pro 7 renter for life?
What I see is that PCs hardwares will considerably changes in 4 years (in some months we'll have PCI express, don't know how long actual PCI motherboards will be sold; I think we have to buy the best PC for our actual CW cards right now; I think the new CW cards will come in few months...), so maybe it's not a good idea to buy a soft that will probably need upgrades in the future?
Cheers,
Grok

Right now, we're at Sam Pro 7.02
I've heard that Sam Pro 7.1 with ASIO automation will be announced next week, but can't confirm.
Anyway, I appreciate very much the Magix support in their registered users forum: they are quicks.
I'm happy Emagic no more distributes Samplitude, coz they have done nothing...And now Magix shows very good support...And Sam Pro 7.02 rocks!

Everyone can do what he feels is the better for him...
Anyway, Samplitude Professional is a must have for everyone serious with music and sound mixing; compare it with Pyramix Virtual Studio and Pro tools; for the bang for the buck Samplitude Professional is the best in highest quality audioworks, with no compromises.
Samplitude, wich is already miraculous regarding the totally professional audio quality and ergonomy, will be more and more powerful accordingly to the PC's native exponentially increasing power. I think Samplitude is the future. I jump in.

I believe there can be a great difference between Cubase and Samplitude, but why to compare them so closely when they are a different approach to music making? I think that Cubase is a great studio if you know what you are doing with it. I have to say the same again… Study it, get to know it in depth!!! Whatever your software, get to know it and work hard to extract the best out of your expended time.
I for instance, even if Samplitude, or whatever else out there, is better than Cubase, will not change to it, cos I have studied it and know it quite well by know.
Knowledge of your software is more important than the software itself. I know people that have recorded an album with a crappy and very old “PortaOne” and they did an exelent job, professionals didn’t understand nor believed how their album sounded.
Of course, there are better effects in one package than in anothere
and there will always be a better one and the better one will be most often, the last release of a software. All you have to do is to wait a bit, and your own software is going to shine again… I can’t see a serious growing into a software familiarity, if you are going from one software to another for ever…
Of course, if the time is due for Cubase to get stack, well, I’m going to be moving away from it, but as long a they keep going, what for? In my opinion, this is a useless complication cos tomorrow, Cubase is going to release a better verb based not in convolution, but in let’s say, “Convolution Standard II”, and then your going to go back again…
When talking about such big companies and superb engineers behind them, it’s not really a matter of what is better, cos they are top the range already, but what is suitable for you. This is the point.
I frankly, do not recommend to be changing software but to those of you just starting that have not wasted their time learning a piece of software so deep like Cubase, for instance, I would rather recommend a change in the way you see software.

Stange.Software can be a religous matter.I think it´s called monoteism when you only accept one God.I like the pluralism .
Therefore I work both with samplitude cubase sx and other programs .The reason that I bought samplitude was that the older versions of cubase were pretty buggy but the sx is as bugfree as samplitude.I wouldn`t have spent so much money if I knew that sx was comming but on the other hand I like to work with samplitude for some purporses. So Nestor stay
with SX unless you have a lot of money for new software or you need a program for mastering ,it´s a splendid masteringtool.SX is far ahead samplitude as a midisequenzer and audio in SX has improved so much in the audio treatment so you would
only gain a few nice features by buing samplitude.

If you call :"more plugins and more tracks" (with Samplitude) a nice feature, ok...Why not. Maximum power is what I want for my mixes...
If you call the Room Simulator a nice feature, I'll say that IMO it's an outstanding feature...This quality of reverb at this price, in real time, it's a revolution for me...
If you call the Samplitude's Amp Simulation and Vocoder nices features, i'll say: very very nice features!
If you call the Samplitude's Linear Phase EQ a nice feature, I'll say: look at how much Waves Systems sells you this nice feature...With less EQ bands
If you call the Samplitude's Multiband Compression a nice feature, I'll say: really nice too! The Optimaster isn't so nice...And so simple...And so complete.
And so on, for all the Samplitude's built in plugins and audio treatments...
For it's outstanding mixing ability (Objects Oriented mixing with Samplitude is not only a nice feature: it is the feature that makes Samplitude superior to all others mixing softs, because it multiply the power of your DAW for mixing...No other audiosoft has this...)
If you think I'm religious, I'll say: no, I'm only a demanding user, for my mixes

I think MAGIX should give you a free piece of Samplitude since you are such an intensive fighter for their product.

Well, I'm on the verge of a sequencer update, and I'm trying to Samplitude demo at the moment. It sure seems like a very powerful program, especially for working with lots of audio. The effects are very nice, especially the verb and the fft filter and eq. I was struggling a lot with the interface though, very different from Cubase. I might get used to it though.
Still I think I'll go for the Cubase upgrade to SL first. And buy a decent eq plugin seperately. (why can't I get Cubase without all the 3rd rate effects and instruments, but for half the price!?

)
There seems to be a lot of bad reports coming from the Cubase camp at the moment though, with updates apparently still a long way off for Cubase while Steinberg are working on Nuendo 2 instead. It makes me still doubt my decision. I really want to move on from Cubase 5 though, but I don't think I'll ever need all the high-quality super stuff in Samplitude. Maybe the next step...
