If you listen quietly...
A friend of a friend put £20 on Greece at 100:1 ... he's a very happy bunny !
CRAAASH!!

...you can hear my chin hitting the floor!
But I think that the situation is somewhat similar in England, isnt it? Football fans=hooligans....
Used to be the case, certainly. It got very bad between '75 and '85 (roughly) - the stadiums have now all been changed to be fully seated (rather than standing on the terraces), there's a lot more social intollerance of that behaviour, stronger penalties, more policing of games etc...

Things have improved a lot, but there will always be a small number of lunatics who just want to fight. Often, they don't even go anywhere near the ground, or have any interest in football, really...

There's only one way to deal with a football hooligan - cut off their balls!

If it doesn't deter them, it'll certainly calm them down. Bonus - their genes get removed from the human gene pool too!

Not really - I'd chop 'em off regardless of race, colour, creed or religious beliefs!

My Grandad & I used to go to Portman Road to watch Ipswich Town play all the time when I was a kid - it was nearly all terraces back then (standing) - I used to stand on a milk crate so I could see what was happening.

When I was 11 years old, after the game a group of thugs ("supporters") beat-up my Grandad and stole...his football rattle and scarf. Pretty bloody shocking really.

People like that do not deserve to have testicles hanging between their legs, in my opinion. They cannot manage their own thoughts, actions or violence. What do you allow them to continue to do? Rape somebody? Kill somebody? All for the sake of 'liberalism'? I say no.

we've had someone from our southern neighbour country filling that vision with life - or death if you prefer - some 60 years ago...

with the exact same arguments...
which are (ab-)used again and again to justify almost any conflict on this planet

I somehow agree on the subject (and I don't consider democracy a successfull model...), but it's only a small step and that ice is very thin

cheers, Tom

Sorry, I but do not agree with that.

I hear what you're saying but I think that there's a case for saying that people are currently being treated far worse with a more negative overall effect on society as a punishment for their crimes.

Take a sex offender as an example, whose offense was against a young person. There is a very strong feeling against these people in Britain at the moment - there was even a case of a paedeotrician's house being attacked & burned down because people are too stupid and ignorant to find out that there's a difference between that and a paedophile!

Under the current system, that person would lose their liberty for many, many years - i.e. they would be incarcerated. Let's say for 20 years. They would serve little to no good for society inside jail - they would merely suffer. They'd probably be beaten and raped themselves, especially if it was discovered what their offense was. They wouldn't get 'better' - their sanity would deteriorate. And all this at enormous expense to the tax payer. When they finally get released, they are 'ghetto-ised' - tight 'communities' of sex offenders (so society can 'keep tabs' on them). Their address becomes fairly open public knowledge - they are marked for life. They are also quite liekly to re-offend - this has happened on many occasions.

I can't see anything positve at all in our 'modern' society's approach to this type of problem. It seems that it's better to:

waste and ruin another person's life
contribute nothing positive back to society
perpetuate violence and neurosis
waste loads of money

than it is to castrate somebody. "Oh no, we couldn't possibly do that! That wouldn't be moral..."

Under my 'system', there would be one simple bold action and no retribution. After that, the person can be put safely back into society and make a contribution. They will always have the weight of their own conscience as their personal punishment - and at the end of the day I think that's punishment enough - why lock them up just to rot? Is that really better?

I'm not pretending that these issues are simple, or cut-and-dried, but I think that there's a danger of creating a worse situation by turning your back on things than confronting them directly.

I was in Berlin last week, and my friends overthere knew a Greec guy working in a Greec restaurant.
He invited us to come to the restaurant after the mach, what we did...
I got drunk without having spended any mony, you will believe that

Joke in a German magazin:
man, sitting on his sofa in front of the tv, yelling to his wife in the kitchen:
'hey, our Otto plays against France this week'.
Gotto Rehakles he is called in Germany, haha.
Now he refuses to be the next German national trainer, and maybe the soccer authorities will ask our Dutch Guus Hidding.
Well, then WE should get Otto as national trainer, and defeat Germany in the finale of the World Championship in 2006...
That would be nice, hehe...
Sorry Tom, wild fantasies...
