Not having Dual Channel capability was a mistake in the way I installed the memory, that's all... I mean, there are six slots, two of them are for DDR3 and the other 4 are for DDR2. I installed both DDR2 sticks into the first 2 slots, but you need to install one in the first section, and then another in the second and Dual Channel is automatically on.

Of course... You are a lazy Macy one  :P If you want to learn to control your nerves and tension, get a PC, it will put you in a trial... :D   (mixed emotions there)

everything is hard until you know how.

and then some things are still hard! :P
but putting together a pc isn't that hard once you know how....

Sure it is not a big deal to build a new PC oneself, it just takes some practice and also time to investigate the new technologies going on and the items you’ve chosen to use, so they are perfectly compatible.
BTW: I can announce a healthy Pulsar card here, she’s alone in Slot 3, IRQ 20… comfortably laying in her personal beach with a martini, while I, her personal barman, take care of her majesty the Scope Queen!
:D

I hope so.
I'm going to start my own building project within the nex months, once I get all the parts I've ordered.

I think I've better start a new topic and leave this one to Nestor's private use. He may still need it 8)

Hey Kayu, I would be very happy to help you when you open your new topic. Send me a private message, so you remind me at the exact moment. I think we can help you much here, because many of us build our own systems.

FIST REPORT ABOUT THE SYSTEM
Doing some mathematics here calculating the loading times, I can say the new system is about 550% faster than the older one, which means it is about 5.5 times faster.
Details:
It really is worth having SATA drives instate of IDE for your “C” partition, everything runs faster, particularly installations, defragmentations, registry cleanings and turning on and off your system.
The EVGA 8600GTS it’s a monster of a graphic card, ultra fast, great colors and highest resolutions I’ve seen in my life. Well acquainted for graphic work and video editing, I can say now I did the right choice with this one. It’s an electricity devotee, but who cares once you have the proper PSU.
The CPU goes from 20 to 32 ºC even after a few hours of work… Does Arctic Silver have anything to do with it? :P Just kidding
This is it about speed for now, but what it is more interesting and important is “CAPACITY” well beyond speed! I did not test this one yet, but I guess the answer will make a fantastic difference, probably about 10 times more capable than the older system.
Cheers
:)

Congrats!
good luck with further testing, while i keep up with the old config :-(
....witch i start loving again, becauseit can run it for days again, like before.
I found Cubase 4 (pre 4.02) and myself, was the reason for the system instabillity - of course Cubase got all the blame, while i was whistling like only an innocent can do.

Hi Nestor, congrats!

And thanks in advance. I'll keep your offer in my mind.
(I just got an e-mail telling the parts for my new pc have arrived to my retail shop 8)

I would be glad to please you about a test, :) but you have to tell me how to do it, because I don’t know. What do you want to find out exactly of specifically? Do you have a suggestion about it? Perhaps using a test program sort of Sandra or something? Tell me please

My MV-Performance with a Pulsar 1 only is very bad.
(Just up tp 2 or 3 MV Pro)

If threre is another new scope-card added, the PCI-Perfomance is much better.
(seems like the Pulsar 1 PCI-Layout doas not like latest pci-express setups)

So a test with a single pulsar 1 woud´nt show the real pci-performance...

stardust wrote:Nestor, do you do a MV test ? please
A single small card setup is not what you can do a MV test on...it will run out of dsp much faster than the PCI capacity has been reached, apart of the poorer first generation cards pci performance.

I guess that being a Pulsar I, my report is not relevant at all... so I'm going to post it only here, and not there in the dedicated thread.

I don't own the Master Verb Pro, I only have the "Master Verb" and the "Master Verb" classic.

Master Verb test:

4 is the maximum I could load

Master Verb Classic Test:

the same, 4 is the maximum I could load

Note:
In both tests I reached PCI overblow when the third was loaded, reloading the dsps would give me one more, till reaching 4 Master Verbs.

I hope it is usuful for you

stardust wrote:Nestor its a test where you try to load as much as possible of the masterverb pro into your scope.
Not the "Pro", but the normal ones, being a little smaller they offer a better analysis resolution.

So... what's up now? :P Did I win something or what? Hey, what a small test, it was too fast to do, so no complications for me... :D I'm desapointed... he he... I spected some crazy complicated analisis of the board that would give us some information about how it performs in terms of bandwide.

PCI overflow or DSP overload?

Posted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 7:35 am
by astroman
further above Nestor wrote overflow occured at the 3rd Masterverb, re-initialising made a 4th instance possible.

On Intel 815 (on my system) it's 5 active instances and the error trying to load #6 will not recover.

So this is in accordance with Andre's finding that the PCI performance for generation one cards (as master) is not particulary great on newer mobos.
Probably only Nestor and myself run such an oldie as master ... :D

your results are much appreciated Nestor, as it will make me keep my setup on the Pentium 3 at least until I'll get a 2nd generation board.
I'm planning to get a SuperMicro (not available yet) and the passive 8600.

cheers, Tom
