Lemme get a more percise picture of the workflow here,
bass: Nestor's got it done
drums: Algo's still got the part? but not yet implemented.
harmony: Internally "there" in the bassline, but paulmartin's gonna do it? But is this harmony as in just a bunch of chords? (but not necessarily a part in the song, more of a guideline)
synths: Then, I'll put in synth/keys parts with the chords layed out in "harmony" in mind
melody: Somebody adds vocals or solo instruments.
sequences: Dunno what this stands for.. sort of like the guy who puts everything into one cubase project? Like the "multitrack" guy?

final MIX: Then I'll smash everything through Pulsar mixer.

Heey, that leaves one final position...
The Mastering Artist
Anyone up for that challenge? I can do it, but maybe it's more fun if somebody else did it.

yo!

here's where I'm at - I have 2 research papers due this week, and 3 mid-terms - fun!
But it is all over on Thursday.

It is unclear if you all want to wait it out or not . . . no hard feelings or anything if someone wants to step in. I don't want to hold up the show <edit - after rereading - it sounds like the harmony is supposed to be 2nd anyways!?! >

I listened to all of the basslines
I am thinking something like a slow, funky hip hop beat for a lot of it, and a more drum 'n bass-ish beat for some of the faster parts - I am not sure if this is OK - but I am pretty bored with 'normal' drums. In case you did not know, I am a mangle whore. What I do will of course fit (to my ears) - but it ain't gonna be no drum kit rock beat or any cheeze like that . . .

KEN! Great to see you're back, man!

Master Mastering! That would be absolutely great but I would definitelt love to hear you play on this.

What do the others think?

Hello friends! Good to see everybody is back...

Well, I do not pretend to rule it at all. Please, feel completely free to do or undo anything you like. I just had the idea but it doesn´t mean I have to tell you what to do. Not at all. I think you are all very talented people and this is the VERY REASON I want to do something with you. So just do as you like it.

So Algo, if everybody agrees, we wait for you right? I thought you would teke much longer.

Ken, as Paul says: you are the Master Mastering, it´s sounds cool too!! jejeje.

The melody is held by Maket, who ofered his hlep already.

Hi everyone

I've been thinking about the logistics of it all and the part I am playing in all of this could be a bit tricky for me at the moment. The first problem is that I currently don't have an internet connection at home so it would mean transporting files on floppies to and from work (not a good idea as I should be working!!!). The second is that I am in the process of completely tidying up my setup updating my sequencer etc which to be honest is in a bit of a mess at the moment. So if there's someone who would like to take my place in this then I would be very grateful! I'd really like to be involved in the next one somehow though. Let me know if this is OK.

Ok, cool. I'll do mastering then. And algo, make sure you kick some ass in your midterms.
Nestor, wacha think of Matt's situation? I think Nestor should make final calls. Like, we need somebody makin' calls or things will start to sorta fall apart. Everyone agree?

Hi there,

I was just going over the thread to look how far you guys were on your project and I saw Matt had to jump out. If I'm right might took the sequencing part... If the place is still open and you want to give a 'amateur' a shot, just let me know, I'd be happy to work with the great ones on this forum ...

Greeetz and just let me know ...

Right Valium, it's yours

As Paul said, it would be convinient to wait till he is finished his onw big job, which is Harmony. When he has done it, you can get the MIDI file so you go through to create your sequence. I think this was a very good idea from Paul. What do you think Valium?

I'm not really clear.. what goes on in this sequence process? Paul lays out the chords in MIDI format.. and then?

Well to be really honest after Nestor's last post, I'm getting confused too. Hey Nestor, could you state here what's expected of me? In a clear and understandable English (or Dutch might be even better) cause I thought my job would be to concentrate on putting everybody's work together in one project and then send it on the the mastering master?

Or am I that wrong ...

My guess was:
----------------
Nestor bass+algo drums+my keys+Maket melody
Paul's chords ties all of them together

Everyone does a part for every bass part, or a longer loop if perferred

All wav files go to Valium

Valium creates cubase or some sort of project file, deciding which part comes in when, or slicing and chopping as he likes

File goes to Maket where he adds the final melody line and other necassary back tracks. (like a second guitar part that soars with the lead?)

project file comes to me, where I mix down to a 2 mix. And then I send that through mastering.

Finish -------------
So actually, it might be more logical if the chords came to me, so I can lay down synth/key parts. Also, bass+drums+keys seems a little vacant so why not just have Paul lay down guitar parts as he does the chords? I mean, Paul JUST laying down chords is kind of awkward.

Or, we could also go with a loong chord progression, with alternative bass/chord relationships (so 1 bass loop could have several different patterns of chords.. a mind bender, always). So Paul lays out the chord progression for the entire song. And then, when the chords+bass+drums is layed out by Valium, everyone starts throwing things into it, and then Valium organizes, ships to Maket, and then to me. That could also work.

Oh yeah, but I'll have to wait 'till algo does the drums cuz I need to read the groove to lay down the synth/key parts.

Right on Ken

that's what I thought it would be like, now I just wonder if that's what Nestor had in mind. Let's wait and see, but my guess is this is what it's going to be like, don't know what else sequencing could be, but just to warn you guys, I'm not one of the pro's here, that's you  But I'll do my best as you'd expect of course. I'm sure you'll comment as I do the job so that eventually it'll get done right (hehe)

greetz ...

Yeaa, sorry about my English... Worst of all, I've learned it in Glasgow

Well, I think Ken put it very clear thanks for that Ken. I would not touch it so not to mess it now that is clear. Next time, I promise to give a better picture to everyone of you of what I want to do. I think there will be more.

What's next? We are waiting for Algo...

So when does algo get to start working anyway??

After his exams and papers. I for one am willing to wait as he is going to have a lot of steam to let out after his ordeal.

haha - yeah, tests all done - I am doing the drums this week. I should have it in on Monday

Paul - email me privately on how you want me to send you the files [email in my sig]. Perhaps STS program, and MIDI files will be best to send?

In addition to the samples, I plan to do a hand drum part with my phatty-boombatty 19" djembe
