Automation - getting your sequencer to twiddle knobs & faders 4 you in the mix. Often fairly dodgy, in my experience

It depends on your style, as I have said all along. I just mixed two acoustic guitars and vocals in the pulsar mixer because it is 0 latency and because of the high quality effects (masterverb, and the SSB stuff). But when I make my music, I am still mixing in Cubase. I use synths and FX outta pulsar. mix, sequence, more FX in cubase. the VST FX are WAY MORE experimental than anything on pulsar. The propac mixer is much better than the big mixer, i still don't use it much though.

Explain 'dodgy' to me... that isn't very positive I think?

"better" depends on what you are doing - freeware VST stuff can afford to be more innovative and experimental because they literally have nothing to lose. Creamware is trying to make money, and studio professionals are more likely to buy more than us "normal" musicians = more conservative plugins. Frankly, I use both pulsar and VST, the VST stuff is just awful neat to me right now . . .

stuff like:
GRM tools (not free)
plogue's mixed grains and rebuilder
*anything* from tobybear - he is god - deconstructor and robobear  and silverbox?!?!
the destroy fx crew - buffer override is absolutely sick! skidder too
ohm force's "fromhage" > it ain't no everyday filter!
some of mda's stuff is pretty wierd
smart electronix cyanide

Pulsar doesn't have: resynthesis like "rebuilder", granulation like "robobear", reordering algorithms like deconstructor (rotor oscillator on pulsar is close but less controlled) -
pulsar does have really good quality plugins, but most are pretty ordinary. good standard effects. but we must look outside of the box for access to more experimental stuff, and that is where all of the fun is . . .

I use destroy, plogue, and toby stuff pretty much religiously now. there are links to alla that stuff on my website under "studio", which is in my signature.

 - actually - I just posted a beta version of a track "rez127" in the song area here. You will hear a really resonated sequenced sound at about 2:00 - that is our very own orbitone 303 w/full resonance (hence the name rez127  )which goes to -> DigitalFishPhones Dominion -> Plogue Rebuilder -> TobyBear Deconstructor. So, yep, I like em!
