Real media is the worst - I strongly believe it to be the main reason for some of my windows coruptions (with following forced reinstalls) in my "pre pc geek" days.

Hmm, yes funny about RealMedia. Their earlier versions were absolutely terrible, but the current free player isn't too bad.

I find that so long as you are very careful what options you install and what file associations you make, then it's pretty good. The streaming quality I find better than QT or Mediaplayer.

Unfortunately in my job I have to have all these installed because I deal with many types of media.

My Quicktime comment was because I wasted three hours last night fixing the latest quicktime 6.5 install when I should have been working ...

I happen to really like Real Player. Lets face it, if you want to just use one media player, all of the options have turned into irritatingly bloated programs. I'm just happy to stream Democracy Now in the morning at high speed with good resolution. I used to be a WinAmp die-hard until the only real difference ended up being the plugin base which I never used.

I think Quicktime blows though. I'll say that authoritatively. But not nearly as much as Windows Media Slayer 9. I'll never willingly install all that DRM stuff. You can disable a bunch of it in the settings page, but I have no trust left for those bastards. Anyway. <whistling> Any NDA's expire JC?

Peace,
Sam

Actually I agree that the free RealPlayer is pretty efficient and unobtrusive these days.

I must learn to be quicker to forgive. Image

I agree that if you're VERY careful the latest free realplayer isn't bad...for playing realmedia.

Winamp5 rocks for mp3's & quick audiofile auditioning imo..

and media player & quicktime necessary for the media only they can play.

Oh also, when I listen to cd's i have an inexpensive dual rackmount numark thing that I use rather than a cd-rom. Winamp still skips songs with cd's (duh) unless you set it to crossfade (also bad with a continuous mix) tho winamp DOES support .cue with a single mp3 to allow track seeking and continuous play, which is rather nice for getting a mixset in mp3 and not having to have little skips when you burn to cd but still have tracks (individual mp3's can cause problems because mp3 frames and cd frames don't necessarily line up usually).

Don't you love these sorts of threads ?

It's like the company president has called everyone to an important meeting. All the workers gather in the meeting room all seriously discussing and wondering what the big news will be.

But then the boss is late. Everyone gets tired of speculating on the news so they start talking about all sorts of other things.

Finally the boss walks in...

Anyone have a copy of the agenda? Mine got stuck in the photocopier.
Ah thanks.
Erm. You wouldn't have a pen I can borrow, would you?

(problem is we're not supposed to talk about what's on the agenda  )

Enough about water. All I am saying is that facts require proof before I will except them.

Regarding Creamware:

Correct, none of us know exactly what is going on but financially they could be in better shape. That is the most polite way I can say it based on what little I know about their situation.

Regarding Quicktime and Realmedia:

In the past these plugins have really annoyed me. I think realmedia is in trouble now because so many people have high speed internet (and a growing number) that their software will not be so important in the future. In essence they have all their eggs in one basket. One of the things I hate about that company is the very expensive price for their server software. I feel everyone and anyone should be allowed to stream audio for free and in a format that most people can decode. This would put compelling content in the hands of everyone, not just corportations and rich people.

Going off topic doesn't bother me at all.

It takes more than just one person to take the thread in a different direction though so I can't be the only one to blame. I feel the meat of the thread was covered very nicely by John and nobody should feel the need to read each and every reply but I apologize to everyone it bothered for my off topic remarks.

Some people think my comments are agressive. People need to be more agressive like Howard Dean is. Agression and energy are a good thing. Without anger we would be in a state of perpetual intertia and judging by the way the world is now, that can't be good. That is why I would never want to be totally happy for an extended period of time...

This is getting philosophical.

Anger is a destructive, negative force. What the hell do you think has made the world what it is now?? People sitting around holding hands?

Anger is destructive, it breaks families, shatters anything constructive it can possibly destroy, puts nations at war against each other for no reason. You call this a positive force? Wake up my friend, if you really mean what you say, then you live a sorry life indeed, trapped within the walls of your hard feelings. Love and harmony are the only forces that ever created the constructive things which we have and often take for granted. What do tou think is propelling the plant growth which feeds you and I every day of our life? Certainly not hatred nor arrogance nor impatience!

I kindly ask you to keep your negative vibes out of the way. You want to live that way, fine, just keep it for yourself and please don't pollute this nice place with your whinings and hate-fueled destructive thoughts and feelings. Thank you.

I grew up when punk rock was introduced. I'm not a fan of the status quo. Rock was initially rebellious and quickly was embraced by corporate America and the rest of the world.

I'm for peace which is why I am so angry about the government. Does that make sense?

Come on people let's have a revolution!

That doesn't mean I am violent.

Okay who else is a goody two shoes in here?

Put up your dukes!

Anger is blind. Rage consumes you to the point where you forget what the fuck you were originally angry about and trying to change.

This is clearly evident in every revolutionary or reactionary political activity throughout history: Communism, the IRA in Northern Ireland, Islamic fundamentalist terrorism and the Bush administration just to name a few examples. The Crips gang in LA started out as a means to try and empower the black community. Look where that 'revolution' ended up.

Physical revolution is pointless and doesn't work. Try to revolutionize your mind instead.. your spirit will thank you for it.

Anyway this is way way way off topic. What was the original thread about again?

Evolution (that is my belief - others may differ) gave os emotions, because they are usefull - all of them.

If someone is beating a helpless child, anger may be one helpfull tool to stop it.

Anger is a basic human feeling. Make it your friend, and it looses it's danger. Deny it, and it is a very dangerous thing indeed.

Scratch an overly angry person and invariably you find someone very sad inside.

Edit: corrected "frightened" with "sad".
