It may sound stupid, but after trying out a Pulsar 2 system for six months, I realised that I didn't like working with it. Really. The Puslar 2 is the coolest soundcard i have ever used, and it TRULY capable of amazing things. All the synths, all the fx... And best of all, the Modular III... All wonderful. I loved it. But I hated working with it. I just did.
So I decided to send it away, and I was ready to replace it with just about anything. A synth, a groovebox, a soundcard, a pair of monitors. Just something that could give me my inspiration back. It didn't even have to be music gear, just something else than the Pulsar card.
So what happened? Well, I traded the card for an Oberheim OB12. Considering the fact that I already own a number of virtual analog hardware synths, I knew that I didn't need it at all. My friends said that it was a stupid thing to do. I knew it was. But did it anyway. It was just a replacement, just something new in the studio. I just wanted to get rid of the Pulsar 2.
I didn't think that I would like the synth, but I promised myself to give it a chance. And I love the machine! It is not the best synth I've tried, but damn, it is lovely to work with. And it is beautiful! Maybe I don't need the OB12, but I can tell you, I have INSPIRATION! And I'm doing crazy things with it already. Do I need to tell you, that there are a lot of Obie-style pads in my current song? No, of course not...
I will not miss the Pulsar 2. But I will miss the lovely synths that the Pulsar 2 offered, and mostly the ModIII. I know it now: I wasn't man enough to own the Pulsar 2. It was more than I needed, it was too cool for me...
Now, I'm resigning and moving on to a new sound system. I wish you all the very best of luck with your music projects, and I hope that you will live a happy life with your SFP systems!
And oh, in case you happen to own ModIII, give it a hug from me every now and then!
