Hello fello pulsarians. I have a quick question for you. I have the Presonus Digimax 96K 8 channel mic pre running into adat 1 on the Pulsar card. I am also sending 2 channels throught the xlr with the Drawmer 1960. Is it possible to use the other adat in or aes/ebu at the same time with the Digimax? I have tried a test taking the adat cable from my Korg trinity into adat 2 of the card. Both units are set to 48k. When I select one of the units as slave, the other has a sample problem and I get this wierd sound. When I click to the other adat, then the original has the problem.
Am I missing a piece of gear to make this work?

Thanks greatly

Do you have pulsar set to master and the digimax and trinity to slave?

Hello again. Yes, I tried that but the same problem is there. Both have the stuttering sound when Pulsar is the Master. That would make perfect sense though.
You should be alble to plug in 2 adat devices and have them both work... or I guess I am dreaming?

Any body else have an idea????
Thanks greatly for the help

The wordclock source must be one, so if the 16 channels are sent from a single ext. device all it's easy, but if you have 2 of them, things must be set in a way that a single clock master slaves all the other gear.

I didn't try, as I have everything in the box, apart some apogee pre + converters for recording, that are only usable as master, but what I said should be true...unless it's not...

You are both correct. I borowed an ADAT today to figure it out.
Both were trying to be Slave Master.
The Digimax only has an ADAT Send so that has to be the master.
I then plugged the ADAT Recorder into ADAT 2 with the IN and OUT. That was my problem!!
I only had ADAT out going from the device. Once it got the input all was well.
I have been told about Jitter. Do I have to worry about this if I got another convertor like the A8 to run the other 8 adat channels?

Thanks guys

Dave

works for me...

Myself, I run a single digital desk as master into pulsar over ADAT. The clock source on the desk is very good (certainly better than the last desk I was using) and jitter/sync stability is not an issue. The desk is also big enough to handle all the I/O configurations to outboard so running this way is acceptable for me. Had I need of more digital devices for I/O however, then I would not use the pulsar as master with all other devices as slave. That's not to say using pulsar as master clock for multiple digital devices over ADAT won't work. Give it a go and see what happens. It's just, in my opinion, for low jitter and sync stability, clock over ADAT works best when only two devices are used IE. 1 master and 1 slave. For more slaves I would be looking at getting a dedicated clock source to sync everything to. A good one can be expensive though.

Thanks for your answer.
So it will work if.. for instance, rented a A8 for the other adat in, and have that slave to the digimax presonus and also pulsar. You stated clock and jitter. What exactly is jitter. Please excuse my ignorance.
THanks again

Make pulsar the master with the digimax as a slave and the A8 as a slave also. It should work ok.

Jitter happens when clock "state changes" vary slightly over time. You won't get a 100% jitter free clock. The effects can be a raising of the noise floor, smearing of the soundstage, lack of clarity etc.

I am having the same problem, I just got an ART DPS II tube pre with ADAT today! (thanks astroman for selling me on it for an entry pre) I am already running a digital mixer into the ADAT A input, and am just realizing that the pulsar can't handle slaving to 2 separate devices. This really sucks!

It sounds like I should be able to use Pulsar as the master and slave both devices to it. Sadly, it is too late to buy another ADAT cable, and I only have 3! I'll test it out and fill ya'll in tomorrow!

Hi mythalethe, i also bought ART DPS for the adat connection, and i have a weird setup, that still work perfectly.

I have my mixer as MASTER, going to pulsar adat 1-8 and back. Pulsar as SLAVE, and ART DPS plugged into pulsar adat 9-16 as slave also...Stil work rock solid.

BTW, the DPS is pretty coOl

hey everyone!

Got the extra ADAT cable, and now have pulsar mastering the digi mixer and the ART DPS II without problemo! I agree that so far the ART DPS II sounds awesome. Must be better analog/digital converters, plus those little vacuum tube thingies...

cheers (and back to making music)
