Logic has put on another suit of clothing. Logic Pro for the big ones and Logic Express for the teenie ones. People would get DIZZY when Emagic is done.

Logic Pro is one hell of a good deal. Too bad the G5's don't like Creamware cards. A baffling choice for a computer that's supposed to be a professional music tool. Oh well, I'm sure Apple has their reasons.

Huh, what a topic on tis thread! I was sure Emagic (Apple) has bought CW.

Damn, I yearn for some news from cw. They haven't even updated their site for years.

What is really magic about Emagic is how they made 90,000 PC users instantly disapear.

I can't help but wonder if eliminating the Windows customers has hurt them. They're practically giving away the virtual instruments and effects in Logic Pro 6. Their Space Designer reverb had just come out, and now it's bundled with the package. It wasn't cheap either. Seems like they're desperate to get Windows users to switch over to Mac.

The big problem about switching to MAC seems to be the inexistent OSX drivers for Creamware cards. I might have switched by now, who knows...

An even bigger problem is that you can't use Creamware cards with the G5. They aren't compatible with the pci slots in the G5s. At least that's what I've been reading.

If getting people to switch to a Mac was the plan then it is blackmail and despicable.

Nope, it's called 'poor marketing'. Then again, it may turn out to be a brilliant plan. If you're a Logic 5 user it's quite a bargain. You get all their synths, all their vintage instruments, Space Designer and Logic 6 for $200. Not sure if you've ever heard the Logic synths and instruments, they all sound great.

No it does not cost $200 if you have to buy a Mac!

Incidentally there's no osX drivers for the UAD-1 either.

I agree with you braincell, but that's exactly my point. The attractive upgrade price may be enough to get some folks to go out and buy a mac. I'm sure that's what Apple is banking on. Personally, I'm quite happy with Windows and Sonar 3.

Apple didn't buy EMagic for some Logic customers - they've slept for a dozen years and let Digidesign do all the good stuff on Mac.
Then with OSX they definetely had a lack of knowledge - so they just added that company to their toolkit
Same as M$soft did with Connectix and their Virtual PC emulation (a brilliant solution btw which could have never come out of some Redmond bureaus).
It solves all and every NT4 issues for M$soft customers and a bit more.

The XS Key number for Logicbeing different for PC and MAC on the same XSKey, I doubt that the numbers for the apps are interchangeable... I wish they were though

somehow this reminds me on the actual cw thread ...

to clear up at least one thing: the plugin authorisation is crossplatform (of course the after v5.5.1 ones like SpaceDesigner won't work on windows) .. and if you want a key for the app itself while owning the key for the other platform, hurry up to ask emagic for it !

I might be wrong but it is my understanding that Apple could not do anything to do with music for many years because it would infringe on Apple records trademark. Picking the name Apple was a really stupid mistake which has cost them many millions. It just goes to show you that even if you are very creative it doesn't mean you are good with money. If they were truly so creative and original they would have thought of an original name.

Hi, as a PC Logic user (who, incidentally, is still using his 5.51) I can say that, although I was angry at the time, I'm over it now.. any company can do what the hell it likes. I am still a user of Logic (my 5.51 has not stopped working) and I may well buy an Apple machine when/if they start to make G5 Powerbooks.

Macs are relatively expensive but if you compare with a well-built PC with really good components and case, the difference is not great. Similarly the laptops are around the same price as a premium PC laptop such as an IBM.

And even though I'm a PC user, I have to admit there are cool things about Macs too. The blackmail thing is moot - if eMagic had to sell (and we don't know what kind of situation they were in) then that's that - they just happened to sell to Apple which obviously brings its own things with it.

The real mistake to make is to somehow think that Apple is different to Microsoft, Intel, etc.. they are all big faceless corporations (Apple just happens to have a *very* creative marketing dept.) who would do whatever is necessary to safeguard income.
