I had some real problems determin where to post this...it was either the "problem solving" forum or here...
So if this is the wrong forum for this kind of topic then i apologise now !!!

I have a PC related issue!!! It seems when ever i save i also have to fill in the file prefix!!!

This happened like recently...like yesterday!
Never had this issue before. Iv'e tested by saving files in different programs.
Like wordpad, words, Recycle, Hammerhead, CUBASE, SFP !!!

When saving..if i only write the File name i get a save without proper file prefix.

Take Cubase for example. I click "save as"
A window pops up  and i write a name..say Beat01 then click okay and save is done.
When i check the file windows doesen't recognise it. I actually have to right-click and fil in the file prefix myself.

I have to do this when saving all the time.
I have to write "filename".cpr, same goes for wordpad, words, Recycle, Hammerhead, SFP among many others.
When in wordpad its "filename".doc In SFP "filename".pro or "filename".pre or "filename".dev depending on what im working with. etc etc......
(OBVIOUS i know !! )

The ONLY program uneffected is SoundForge!!!!
Saving Wave files works like a charm.
I ony write filename and prefix follows nicely by itself.

I did NOTHING yesterday to my DAW that would have this effect. Nothing !! Im stunned. This is a first time problem for me.

Iv'e scanned my DAW with 3 different antivirus softwares and i find NOTHING !!!

This is not a life threatening issue...but it worries me. This could be a begining to something worse...or mabye i did do something. But i find THAT very unlikely.

Anyone have valuable input for me ?!?!
Experiences ??

valuable input? from me? no
experiences? yeah  exactly the opposite!

if i save a modular patch without a suffix, it gets saved as xxx.dev.dev!!! if i save it like xxx.dev, all is fine.
didn't care to check if this is normal as it doesn't affect usability. presets and projects behave normally in SFP

as far as audio is concerned: cubase adds the AIFF suffix alright, ableton doesn't. no problem here, unless i try to use a mac ableton project on the pc. then i have to add .wav or .aiff for ableton pc to recognize these audio files. same goes for STS or sample modules.

this stuff i experienced from day one though. it's not something that just happened along the way.

ahhh, computers

Maybe your database for registered file types is corrupt. To check: In Explorer under menu Extra/Options click page File types. The list, does it build up?
