so did that site turn out to be some sort of warez ftp? I thought it was a legal one?

I don't believe it's a warez site. It looks like the same site that I checked out a couple years ago, I don't think it's new. If it's any consolation, I didn't think the samples were very good at all. That was back then though, they may have put new ones up since then.

I assume they closed it to public access because that stuff doesn't promote Akai samplers anymore, but instead ends in various other software systems - read: their competition.
