Hello!!
I have wondered for a long time about all of these different user names you guys have
Whats the story behind them?
I'll start....
Jngaelin stands for:
Jungle and Alien/Alienated rythms/music.
A long time ago i worked alot with just beats. I created all kinds of wicked, crazy even psychotic beats and then added sick sounds and textures that sounded "Jngaelin"
At first "Jngaelin" was a life style/a way to create new interesting beats for me. Now...now its just a name. Both on the WEB and in the reall world i am called Jngaelin.
(When my web site is up i'll put a sound file on it where i pronounce my name)
This is my story...whats yours ???

Well, unfortunately my story isnt even nearly as interesting and complicated as yours.

(as you probably know, Jngaelin) my real name is Nils, and Nisse is what basically everyone with this name is called in Sweden. Allthough its a raher unusual name today, its commonly accepted that Nisse is the only nickname that applies.
As for an artist name, if anything worthwhile will be produced by me in the future, it will be under the name "Unnatural High" But we´ll just have to wait and see with that, Im still in my awkward learning phase.
Edit: When I read this forum, in my mind I´ve always pronounced your name as "Jingle-in"

Funny - I nearly raised the same question after the 'photos' thread was started
No big surprises for my 'nick - it's the name of a Rush album.

Hoo burt
My name is simple. I just wanted to be pronounced like sampler but also wanted to have it written differently. Sam Plaire was at first but for my convinience (entering forums) I shortened it to samplaire.
First I called myself Technical Problem but this lead me to real probs like my sampler's hdd damage
So I changed it to Le Tech and next to samplaire

i wrote a song once about an ex-girlfriend. we were in the middle of breaking up when the song was written, so bitter as i was i sang:
"you're cold, like the siberian sun.
you're alone, like the siberian sun."
i don't think she ever even heard that song but it made me feel a tiny bit better anyway.

Valis is a book by Philip K Dick (V.A.L.I.S.). The meaning for P.K.Dick's book was 'Vast Active Living Intelligent System'.
It seems that towards the end of P.K.Dick's career he had an experience with Sodium Pentathol at a dentist's office, and when he arrived home he was struck with a 'pink light' and had a Gnostic experiene: he suddenly 'knew' a past life during the Roman Empire and it seemed to him that he was living BOTH lives (past and present) at the SAME time. His past-life recall left him with the belief that we are still living in the 'Great Iron Prison' and our illusion of greater freedoms is just an illusion fostered by the Great Iron Prison to keep us relatively content.
Back in 1989/1990 when I first signed up with an early 'information' service named Compuserve (here in the USA) I was reading 4-5 sci fi books a week and VALIS was one of my favorite books at the time. So VALIS became part of my compuserve persona and has been part of most of my email addresses & online nicknames since. The main reason I continue to use it is because so many people that I have known over the last 15 years associate valis with me now to change would require a reason to break that association. Ok I admit, its a force of habit

heh.. I'm probably with the least story behind a nick of all.. Ken Suguro the name, and I put them together so I can use it for forums. (what are the chances of kensuguro already being taken?)
Here's a story behind the name "Ken" tho. My real name in Japanese is Kanu, and when I started going to school (international school) it became apparent that Kanu wasn't going to fit in with all the other Johns and Joes. So, it turned out that Ken was kind of similar to Kanu, and was an okay name for the teachers to pronounce. Actually, it went from Kanu to Kan, to Ken, in 3 steps.
Officially tho, in my passport and all, I'm Kanu Suguro and Ken is more of a "nickname" kinda thing. Ya know, like Chines people who are called "Jacky" or "Cindy".. they're all non official names but used just to fit into the English speaking society. Actually quite smart as it taps into a basic cognitive tendency for people to be able to remember familiar names better than foreign ones. So next time you're in Japan, you can try to introduce yourself as "Kenji" or "Takahashi" or any other familiar Japanese names, and people might remember it better.
Ah, names, 'tis only but a label.

For my head's purposes I pronounce you as you do with one difference - the "j" I pronounce as "y" like in "year". If I had to pronounce it loud I would say it as you do

It's because in Polish we pronounce "j" like in German.

I choose this one so I would not forget that I'm using atomic energy to power at0mic.
It's a little bit like the punk who doesn't want a job cos he's against the system but lives on welfare he gets from that system
I hope once it will be a reminder of the times we used to abuse our planet. Cos as far as we know now, it's the only one we can live on.

I know why you have a zero in your name instead of o. But others don't

I don't have a story neither... My real name is Sami Poimala, and spoimala is quite a good unix login name candidate so it's been my "nick" since -94.
