i was playing around with my project config last night, trying to find ways to conserve DSP.

the STM2448 uses quite a bit of DSP, and with 20-24 channels connected i start to run out of headroom, especially with compression and the like on each channel.

in cubase i have many audio files (drums) that are in mono. they are being bussed out of cubase as a mono channel (although on the output bus portion of the mixer it is represented as a stereo pair, which i don't understand as these are mono files), and in SFP each channel is represented as a stereo pair, thus requiring a stereo connection with the STM2448.

is it possible to set up the ASIO outputs in SFP to be mono for selected channels as they relate to the busses in cubase?

i went through the SX manual for an hour last night, and it doesn't look like i can make the output busses in the mixer mono. maybe i missed it somewhere...

and even if i could, how can i change the ASIO outputs in SFP to mono for drum channels?

it would seem i could conserve DSP this way, and drums IMO need to stay mono throughout the signal path. i record them in mono, and i want them spit out that way as well.

is this even possible, or are the ASIO outputs always represented as a stereo pair in SFP?

ASIO busses are always stereo, correct me if I'm wrong, but the mixer's channels can be made mono, check the channel strip where it says stereo, click on it and whatch the cables change in the project window

hmmm.

i thought i tried that last night, connecting both the L and R from an ASIO output to a mono channel on the STM2448. i don't remember being able to make the connection.

perhaps i was doing something incorrectly...

just take one side of the ASIO SP module...
BTW you CAN use each Cubase bus in a mono way, just lead a mono channel to a bus with channel panning max left or right.
You can also bundle sounds this way to left or right output of the bus.
In SP you must chain the L and R side to the mixer's mono channels

ahhh yes, i see.

it is a mono output from SX, so using only one channel (i am assuming the left one) of the ASIO output will do...

thanks hubird!

you was too fast...check my edited post, left and right can be used as mono routings
