buy an LCD screen!

yesterday i replaced my 6 years old 17'' monitor witha brand new LCD 17''.
if you have never seen it you can't imagine the difference!

now i can finally work a 1280x1024è and have a HUGE routing window!
and the image is much more clear and stable!!
our music need also eyes to be performed!

YES! Except that buy a bigger one... I just bought a 17" LCD but soon I saw the same model but 21" and was shocked about THAT routing window!

Yes! For our eyes the LCDs are must haves! Since I've used LCD my eyes are not tired, really. The difference is , I think, 70% improvement!

Two 17" (or even two 19") lcds are cheaper than one 21" lcd, and give you much more total space to work with (2 x 1280x1024, instead of just 1600x1200). Also, you can buy one now, and add one later...

Look for LCD's with very narrow bezel (like the samsung 710n, 191t, etc), and then put them right next to each other. Use a dual-head video card like the matrox g550...

Also, donate your old CRT to a proper recycling organization, or a local school or something. Don't dump it in the trash - these things are extremely environmentally unfriendly!

I'm about to get rid of an old 21" CRT and two 17" CRT's here: http://www.accrc.org/ Yes, you pay them a small fee, but you get a tax write-off, and more importantly peace of mind.

Lots of people are gagging for things like this, and if all the used computers in the developed world were re-used, we'd have the "third world" online and well informed in no time !

you might try 3 17 " LCD ... with a P750 matrox ... fantastic, i use 3 hyundai Q17 in the studio and even "Live" they are very practicle ...
The P75O is fantastic :
3 monitors or 2 monitors + video monitor (using direct show - full screen video on a real video monitor !)

But consider having 2 x 1600x1200...

I have Viewsonic VP171b and am very satisfied with it!

working on scope plateform (datool magic strip + masterverb pro + psy q opened) with matrox P750 + 3 TFT 17" (1280 X 1024 X 3 = 3280X1024...

ok, I don't wanna diss that setup - it's truely nice, but we could do this trick since 1988 right out of the box with the MacII.
We didn't have those lovely TFTs, though - and everyone was afraid of the radiation dose from 3 or 4 (up to 6) 19" workstation tubes

nice one. and btw, ignore the "you shouldnt smoke" remark by braincell. first of all, we smokers help keepin population down to an acceptable number, and second of all ( this varies loacally, but im talking about norway) taxes paid for smoking way exeeds expences in healtcare caused by smokers, so its good buisness. btw, more people die from mistreatment from health personell per year than from smoking.

Oh, and if you experiment a bit it might even enhance your creativity (tho you should be aware that some ideas that sound brilliant under the influence most certainly is totally rubbish the day after)

i hope you did it !!!

in 1988 i was building my first studio ... and everything was analog !!! except a DAT Recorder (sony - the very first version) and a ATARI 1024 with cubase that i had to load up from a floppy every day !!!!!!!)

were you working on DAW at this time ???
which one ? i'm curious !

no, I was selling and supporting Macs

...and wrote an image aquisition and storage program for medical ultrasound images - which happened to be named 'Sonobase'

quite functional, but a piece of crap from todays perspective - it was a customer specific task - giving me a lot of experience, some great ones (I could do it earlier than Siemens medical departement) and some not so great...

The multimonitor setups were extremely expensive. Those days a single 19" with graph card was about the same as the 76" 4 screen construction representing your 'dream'

But the MacOS had automatic multiscreen/multicolor support from the very first time.
You plugged in a graphcard and the system automatically handled desktop and resolution setup.
You could have one half of a screen overlapping window in color and the other in black and white. The screens could be arbitrarily positioned from all showing the same image to wide landscapes or naggies like move the mouse to the right screen and let it appear on the left.
All without any system modifications or 'driver' issues - needless to mention that all apps automatically supported this setup.
There were Apple developer guidelines forcing you to program that way.

And yes, a friend uses a similiar 4 screen setup, but built from 2 30" video screens a 19" TFT and a 17" CRT completed by 2 small tellies on a board above - for stock trading

My 1000 euros+ 3 years old 22" CRT died some months ago some days after the end of the warranty !

I'am now on a 110 euros 17" CRT and won't waste on screens anymore, I prefer to spend on softs, at least they don't fry.

Sonolive, this is no dream - it's nothing but the simple specs of the Apple monitor control panel - as seen from 1987 on

my concerns regarding the quality of certain OS brands has in fact some real world background...

Well Astroman, surprisingly the ( LG ) CRT I bought is not producing any eyes stress !

On the other hand, at work we have 15" CRT that produce headaches in 15 min !

So I will stick with it ... now when LCD will become really cheap, maybe a 2 X 19" could be bought.

In fact, I hoped a kind soul could offer me a 2 X 30" Apple screens
