I am interested to know which platform everyone is using for sequencing and/or audio recording.

Also, which operating system?

I am using Sonar ver 2.2 from Cakewalk and 98SE.

However...

Just upgraded to Sonar version 3.0, but found out that I can't install it until I update my CPU and operating system, bummer!

I should really have read the requirements page before I jumped in...sigh.

I need a Pentium 3 CPU of at least 1 GHz, preferably a 1.3 GHz, which was as fast as they got, anyone have one they would like to sell?

Otherwise I have to buy new MOBO, CPU and RAM. It's never ending...

So, what have you got?

Wow! That's proper Old Skool now

Ditch it (or keep it for games). Microsoft don't even support it anymore. You'll find 2000 or XP much nicer to work with.

I've got a PIII 1GHz & (if I remember correctly) 640MB of PC133 RAM. I think that the PIII is 'Socket7'. Note that I do have a MOBO too, but it's a VIA chipset so wouldn't recomend it for a DAW application. I've got a few other bits and pieces left-over from my last upgrade too - send me a PM if you're interested.

Samplitude 7.22, Acid Pro on 3GHz machine running XP ProSP1+

Hi all!

I'm using Steinberg Cubase 2.2, I guess it suits my needs best and I only tried out Cool edit pro. Cool edit is great for instant recording but it ain't for serious work. I'm working in Windows XP, it is the only OS next to MacOS or OSX suitable for good multimedia work.

I guess I like cubase at most because there is just so many people using it and this means more people to solve your problem.

So just get rid of windows 98, this os isn't even good enough for text editing, not to talk about making music.

Sonar 2.2 and XP. its running fine. all you can do update to xp.
