no, not an announcement
but it just entered my mind when commenting Carl's great 'Synthetic' presets for the Solaris.

CWA should put the Solaris into the NOAH box and supply a decent hardware controller as an add on.

No editing or routing software required - all SFP synth possibilities out of the box, if they'd contribute the Minimax filter.

It could have a competetive price as R&D is (basically) already done and the NOAH investment wouldn't be completely down the drain.
The concept would be much easier to market than the fairly complex NOAH system.

cheers, Tom

I thought Noah was discontinued?

They are blowing out special units I believe and I think all production on the Noah synth has ceased to put forth all efforts on new products for the Scope line.

I could be wrong but thats what I recall.

Cheers!

"We will terminate the production of the Noah in its present form to make space for new products meeting the demands of the markets for more and more inexpensive prices."

All speculation of course, but note the words 'in its present form'.

I wonder why they chose to name it "Noah". Not exactly a cool name, and doesn't fit the Pulsar, Luna etc. "space theme"...

The world is a shallow place. I wonder how much of the Access Virus's legend is based around the whole virulent strain imagery thing with it's name and adverts.

supply a decent hardware controller as an add on.
Yeah ! and audio as modulation on all synths (in scope too), for expression stuff ...

and may be even something with big buttons to change presets or switches and that goes on the floor, under your foot ! (would be clever and innovative, ay ?)

From the Noah manual: "People frequently ask how the product name 'Noah' came about. Indeed, the name 'Noah' is a metaphor for the fundamental concept of the Noah product. Following the idea of the ark, Noah provides a platform and safe harbor to allow all sorts of classic, current, and future synth technologies to coexist inside a single rugged synth box."

I must say I like the idea... Also, "Noah" sounds pretty much like "Noa", which is usually a name of a beautiful girl here...

with the experience of SFP this concept is indeed easy to understand, but this narrows the potential customer group just too much.
Obviously the response from outside the 'already converted' market wasn't adequate.

Thinking about it backwards even the different user interfaces of the NOAH plugs might be confusing for someone who wanted to use the unit without a computer (at least in certain situations).

To have the NOAH synths and fx share a fixed number of processing 'slots' is making developement rather complicated.
John Bowen himself stated that his current version of Solaris would be impossible to transfer to the current NOAH because it constantly loads and unloads modules from the DSPs to save resources.

That made me think once Solaris could 'command' the complete DSP set, this restriction might be less demanding.

And as already mentioned the CWA statement was about 'NOAH in it's current form...' and about price concerns, so imho the 'most complete SFP synth' could fill the gap and certainly would be easier to market.

But without a true hardware control interface which also represents a 'visible' value for customers I still doubt it's succes, however good the synth engine may be.

cheers, Tom

Also I think Waldorf did the actual building of the NOAH. And they are as we all know, finished now.
