on another muso's board, a poster with the nick 'ted nugent' made a pretty lame comment on the lofi character of a tour some cool guys (who met on the ableton forum).
anyway, i wanted to react in a comic way and did a quick google on the nuge... second link i tried... should i laugh or cry? if stuff like this really is going on in the US at the moment... then you reallyreally have a perverted society over there.

sweet taste of freedom...

There is a small minority of diseased people that think this way. Ted Nugent actually has his own awful tv show where he wanders around the woods killing deer with a bow & arrow(complete with tacky guitar solos in the background).

A lot of people in the US think of hunting as a time honored tradition. Fortunately I was not raised this way. While hunting does actually serve an ecological purpose, the people on the other end of the above link should have more reverence for the lives of the animals they take...JMO...

It's pretty obvious to me that much of the humor on that site is 'tongue in cheek'. And as was said, it represents a VERY small percentage of the American population. I would hope that people outside of the U.S. would be open minded/tolerant enough not to conclude that our society is 'perverted' based on one dumb website. I can tell you without any hesitation that much more 'perverted' behavior than hunting and eating silly ice cream goes on in other parts of the world.

As far as Nugent goes, I am neither a fan of his music nor of hunting. But in his defense, everything that he hunts is consumed. Much, if not all of it, is donated to homeless shelters and mission kitchens in order to feed the homeless.

some apologies are due, joxer. i may have sounded a bit ignorant in the first post. by no means i meant to conclude every US cititzen is alike, and that all americans are perverted. there's asses everywhere.

what got me worried though, were rather the links i followed in the ice cream add. surely you can't approve to those proud gun owners...

ah well, must be my not having a tv for so long now.

Not to dispute this claim, Joxer, but... Where did you see that?!?

I can tell you without any hesitation that much more 'perverted' behavior than hunting and eating silly ice cream goes on in other parts of the world.
I've been to a few places in the world, including the U.S. of A., and you know, I have yet to come across any 'perverted' behaviour. I was told to fear for my life in Albania and Oakland. The only place I've ever been robbed was in a quiet, peaceful, wealthy suburb in Dublin. Stereotypes are silly. Please don't believe everything you read about foreign countries, any more than you would have foreigners believe the crap written about America.

The 6 o'clock news is the closest thing I've ever witnessed to 'perversion'.

Cheers,

Johann

No worries borg. It's just that it's very disheartening to be stereotyped by people who have never even set foot in the U.S.

blazeboylan, I don't remember where exactly I read that about Nugent, but I found this on his site:

http://www.tnugent.com/about_tnusa/hunters_hungry.shtml

As I said before, I'm not much for hunting, but I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the animal is being consumed. I'd be a total hypocrite if I spoke out against it since I do eat meat. There really is no difference whether the animal dies out in the wild or in a slaughterhouse, in the end an animal is losing its life so humans can eat it. It can even be argued that an animal raised for the slaughterhouse suffers more than one hunted down. Some of the conditions they are subjected too are severe to say the least.

well, that settles the score then: 1-1. have travelled from vancouver bc to los angeles and back. stayed about two weeks in vancouver, five in the US. long before 911 though (11 years ago). i've met nice people, seen mothers feed their babies mcdonalds burgers, smoked the finest hydro culture pot wtih cool folks in bc, saw the most beautiful landscapes, were forced to move our tent from the only green, soft patch on the camping ground, to rocky bottom, because some rednecks claimed it to be theirs ... to put on their fishing boat  were offered the best bed for as long as we wanted at other peoples places... (the more north we went, the better i felt at ease, though. must be the heat)
same as here.

ah well. if the subculture of GOA and the likes are really a minority, it might not be a bad idea to have mandatory voting. and we might all be better off.

oh... i never intended this thread to be about hunting/vegetarinism/animal rights. i think it's ok that he eats and shares his pray (better than the supermarket meat). gotta admit i started eating meat again after 9 years of being a vegetarian (totally beside the question).

I'm a vegetarian (although I haven't always been so, I must admit) and I can tell you there is a huge difference between meat from a slaughterhouse and that which has been hunted in the wild by stealth. In a slaughterhouse, the animal knows it is going to die, and the fear and trauma causes it to release neurotoxins into its bloodstream which are harmful to eat. An animal hunted in the wild (the way man has always done it until this pitiful maximum-profit industrial age) does not know it is going to die and it is over quickly. Big difference IMHO.

Hubird have you ever considered starting up a comic strip, created entirely from 3rd party smilies?

Post by hubird »

2?2?d I did, but I need much more smilies, specially more specific ones.
Even better: I better could create them by myself, but I don't have any idea how.
I once searched the net to find out, but it took me too far.

I also had the idea of creating two planetz members who are polluting the forums with silly contributions, fighting eachother in a stupid way about everything, and always off topic:-D
Preferrable a pc and a mac user, the one loving techno, the other Nana Mouscouri, to spice the conversations
McBone and pcHooft?
Macbeth and P.C.Mobo?
Stevy and Billy?
McPlanet and B.S.Odd?

Hm, I think I will stay with music, it could lead to serious twists with new members

Yeah, I was aware of this already. I meant there was no moral difference. I know people who think hunting is cruel yet don't think twice about wolfing down a big juicy steak.
