Well, I have downloaded quite a few fonts lately, very nice by the way, there are planty in the net for free. Now, I have so many that I don't know how to manage them....

I don't want them to be all installed toguether, as they make a mess of my system. It gets heavy in some applications like Flash. And then if you ever need to look for a font in a few minutes, you simple can't, as you'll take about a hour.

What do I want?

I would like an app capable of storing my fonts WITHOUT installing them. Capable of showing me the fonts off the programs, to clasify them by tipes.

Hopefully, fast!

If you know of a font manager which may be good, reliable, please let me know, cheers.

Well, fonts are really just one file at your system. Look at %WINDIR%Fonts .
You can just copy the files there. Double-clicking on the file opens font viewer (at least on Win XP). Delete if you don't like.

What do you mean by classifying by types?

beware of cheapo fonts - or the ones designed by the ones who just got carried away by their graphic tools...

a good font is a lot of work which requires both artistry and craftsmanship

look a the Windows 'Arial' font for example, and compare it to a similiar sized 'Helvetica'.
Arial was invented to spare 'Helvetica' licenses - on screen the difference isn't even that obvious, but in print it's similiar to a Miniscope versus Minimax comparison

on the other hand, if you're doing lots of 'screen work' and internet design, the afforementioned differences may not be relevant, unless the stuff is also bound to a print layout (corporate id etc) - not to forget that a lot of great classic print fonts have indeed ugly screen representations...

Try selecting among 2500 fonts, and you will be asking the same questions as I did

What I mean is to sort them by types, for instance:

Funy
Formal
English
Spanish
Bizarre
Beautiful

etc....

That's it.

Thank you Stardust, it seems to be a capable package to manage fonts. I'll try it, cheers.

Nevertheless, I have done some research in the net myself, but I preffer first experience testimonials, those are the real ones... Cheers.

Of course, if they were just 50, I would have never posted this thread...

And by which means the program could do the categorizing? The problem is there are no pre-defined groups.

Maybe some programs have huge databases of many known fonts, and can do the grouping by fonts' names.

I have done a long research and much reading, and for a number of reasons, I have chosen this particular one, it seems to have everything you need, without overloading in price nor useless features like other font managers. Have a look.
