I have just upgraded MB, CPU and Ram in order to solve those VIA-chipset related issues that I want get further into ever again

I have been focused on the installation process and kept it working all the time now for about three hours! Three fucking hours to install windows - Jesus!!! It took me about an hour to install the hardware....

Ups... Looks like I finally got through. Now for all the software....

3 hrs to get window and all its updates is about right.

now time it again to see how long it takes to optimize Windows.

Nlite will help on both of those fronts (reducing install base and optimizing all in one). Some tweaks will still be needed to be applied after install of course, but its a great help especially since u can even slipstream sp2 right into the initial install.

Only downside is that it takes more trial & effort to figure it out the first time.

Optimation will have to wait - but yes I've been there before, it's a pretty timeconsuming process.

Does anyone have a good link for optimation handy?

Cheers!
Thomas

recently aquired this one
http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html
to regain space from a Win2K-Server installation (gave me an additional 300 MB for data on a 1G solid state disk).

extremely convenient

single license is $39, but a 'bundle' with 98lite was just 10 bucks more, so I choose both.

cheers, Tom

Those where some expensive 1.3GB.

Anyway, I have used 98lite for years, and I like it. I am strongly considdering to experiment some with nlite. I guess it goes a bit deeper than XPlite. But then, I also guess it takes quite a bit more effort to get the stuff just right.

right, Immanuel - the bloody 1G disk was already 120 Euro alone...

Your 'easy access versus deep control' statement probably hits it on the point, but since I have a few installations (and want some dedicted 98 boxes for SID stuff etc), it's a good deal - and those dudes made a good job, too.

cheers, Tom
