Anybody know what the M-Plate MADI 64 etc modules are intended for? I assume it was some kind of forward-looking software implementation -- or did I miss a product announcement?!?

from RME:

What is MADI?
MADI is used by several console manufacturers, including Euphonix, Sony and AMS/Neve, as an efficient way to transport up to 64 channels of 16, 20 or 24-bit digital audio at a sample rate of up to 48 kHz (up to 32 channels at 96KHz) on a single coax cable. Cable lengths up to 100m are supported - more using fiber (see FiberTran opposite). MADI is an AES standard.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to it, sometime in the distant future.

Incidentally piddi although RME likes to focus on manufacturers, AES designed and maintains the spec. Not that AES isn't a conglomerate of companies -- but MADI is definitely not to be confused with something like OMF or Lightpipe or TDIF (proprietary technology)!
