It's just a quick live recording from the Machinedrum with some live mutes (no programmed sequence at all) and some live FX manipulations using a Control Freak to edit the Amp simulators on an O1V. I've only got 2 hands unfortunately, so it's very sparse.

So it's just the SPS-1 effected & recorded dry on Scope @ 24bit. BUT .... I messed up & encoded the mp3 at 64kb/s.... so it's now VERY lo-fi sounding. I'll post the whole track at higher quality when it's programmed / recorded & finished.

I'd like to know if anyone likes the harsh vibe & also if anyone can notice timing drift. Tempo is (or should be) a solid 140bpm.

I like it! - I like it's drive, and I find the bass getting pretty hypnotic in the right way at least twice through the track especially near the end. Sweet!
And the sound is great - I really like the tuba-quality to it.

The hats are a bit harsh - I like the sparkle of them, but they could be more pure and soft.

I like the changes and evolvement of the percussion all the way through.

I didn't notice any speed movement, it seemed pretty firm to me.

Nicely done for a live track indeed!

Can't wait to hear the finished track. It is indeed excellent so far.

Petal, about the hats, i think in the live spirit of things I went OTT with the Amp Sim sends in places

I really have to tell you a little more. This recording hasn't even been 'mixed' or 'mastered'. There was no EQ work either pre or post record & the only processing was the O1V's Amp Sim effect in a state of live fluidity & a gated reverb which drops in & out on the O1V. It really was totally live....except..... for the little stretched, reversed & faded section *rignt* at the start. That was done post record just
to put a twisted touch on the intro of the first beat, but that's *all* that was done.
No post record normalisation etc. Just wanted to tell you a little more. It was supposed to be hard sounding & i was trying to keep it that way, so you won't be hearing any sparkley arpegios in this line of work

I like the overall aggressive sound of this (not meaning it's aggressive music)
I'll join the waiting list for the finished version

I think it could be pretty agressive with some twisted vocal tracks, but right now i don't have a vision as to what would go with this. It almost stands on it's own as a track that could be great for a DJ to mix, which is a concept i'm interested in. We really need to have a good ol' play around with it.

great feel. I like it. It's sparce, but I think the sparce-ness makes it atmospheric, and underlines the evolving percussion. Could have thrown in some crazy elements, but that's taste I guess.

I think the perceived "thinness" comes from the over-the-top hats - but as far as the minimalist arrangement goes - gets me in - I love it.
I also like the harshness of it as well, which I mentioned before.
To me it stands up as it is (a live recording). . . but there's certainly room for some twisted, nasty stuff there too

Ok time to tackle the issue of the perceived 'thinness' in this track. I'll tell you exactly what is causing it (BLgrace is going in the right direction)

As mentioned, in this live recording, the MachineDrum channels were going through an Amp Simulator on an O1V. The setting of the amp sim cabinet depth parameter is actually what creates the perceivable spacial thinness with this effect (which even itself can thin a track). If you listen carefully enough you'll actually hear that cabinet depth parameter being tweeked live here & there

first off, loving the bass. it has a nice sound, almost a rude sound, to it. i love rude... the percussion seems to change up, which is good, although in some spots it tends to be a little overdrawn. maybe i am an impatient person... but i like a song to get to the point in a timely manner. i really like the drop towards the end. i think if you would have brought this in sooner, like in the middle, it would have made for an excellent break/buildup. the only thing i can really see missing is a melody or lead... or both. maybe you could have started with a nice pad melody, drop that out in the middle with that drop you had towards the end, and then built it back up with a rude ass lead? i don't know... just some suggestions.

Hey man, this shiet grooves...Not much happening, but the sound selection is spot on.

I think though that playing with a few distorted delaylines would add something interresting
