Looks cool.. what are the differences between this and the full Solaris?

Shorter load times and lower DSP usage, I imagine. Those two issues have somehow kept me from using Solaris as much as I should. This actually looks more useful to me!

Does this cost money to current Solaris owners, or is this free, John? It looks awesome, nevertheless!

There are a number of differences, but DSP usage is not one of them. The actual synth device is a smaller file, so it will load faster into a Project, and since there are less preset parameters, the presets should change more quickly. Also, the surface has been 'squared' more or less, so as to fit in a 1024 x 768 screen.

The "decrease in function" differences are:

(1) Simpler oscillator arrangement - four of the RDX style oscillator sections. You select from 6 different osc types for any of the RDX sections - MultiMode, WaveTable, Wav playback, RD Insert Slot, CEM, and FM. The only other sound sources are the Rotor, AM section, and VS section. There is no Modular section for the oscs or filters, although Modular and Flexor modules can still be used via the RD Insert Slots.

(2) Two filter sections instead of 4. The selection of filter types has increased in number, however.

3) Three envelopes instead of five.

4) No sequencer.

5) No RD Mod Slots (was in the Global section).



Now, I think what many don't realise is that there have been a number of new functions introduced in Solaris Core. Here are the added functions that Solaris v3.0 does not have:

1) A switch defining the osc's Frequency Mod1 path as linear or exponential

(2) A switch allowing Mod Path 2 to control the amount of Mod Path 1, for both frequency and shape modulation.

(3) Extra filter modes, as mentioned.

(4) All LFOs (including Vibrato) have an offset now - providing unipolar + output.

(5) Vibrato LFO has been expanded to all waveshapes plus noise to match other LFOs

(6) Filter 2 has separate Keytrack Amount (Gradient). In Solaris, all 4 filters share the same amount.

(7) Dynamic Mix controls are integrated into the surface, instead of a popup panel as on the Solaris.

(8) Six FX Insert Slots instead of three.

(9) Added a small graphic for the 3 band EQ, which remains visible at all times (not paged with the EQ section), and which can be used to actually control the EQ.

As I mentioned elsewhere, Solaris v4 will incorporate most of these functions (except the increase of FX Insert slots), plus a few additional things, and Solaris Core owners will be able to 'upgrade' to a full Solaris if desired.
