Hi,

Excuse the OT question, but I have been trying to download some software updates or demos yet I can't access the web pages. I get messages saying:

"HTTP 403 Error or You Are Not Authorised To Access this page"

It's really frustrating because I haven't been able to get some of my software updates.

Can anyone help please?

I generally use Netscape as my default browser but when I can't get to a page I copy the address and paste it in IE. Sometimes it works but if it doesn't the page is defnitely down.

if you've once bookmarked such a page, the programming of the site may have changed since then.

A site is much easier to maintain with a 'fixed' navigation path - not to forget you might miss some phantastic banner ads this way...

Thanks to the responses so far. The browser I am using is Internet Explorer (version 6.0.2900.2180 sp2), but the weird thing is the pages I spoke of I used to be able to see/get access to. But as I did a reinstall (well more a ghost recovery) of my system I don't seem to any more. Is it something maybe to do with macromedia Flash? I don't know if I have it installed or not.

As I have said, I used to be able to see these pages.

Thanks

as I've written, the programming of the site has changed
this may not even be visible, but this 'style' of programming is more or less standard now (imho).
Without this restriction some wannabe hackers might feel invited to gain access to hidden data by guessing filenames, possibly using an automatic engine.

Well Astroman, if they have changed the programming of the site and I can't access certain pages, how do I get my downloads then?

simply by starting from their 'homepage', the top level of the domain.
There will be a menu or button or something else that reads like 'download/support/update'.

Not all sites are created equal - and your problem is not that uncommon to me (try to find a printer driver for an Apple Mac on Kyocera's European site...)

cheers, Tom

Some sites work with popup download pages(like Creative). Make sure you allow popups for those sites you need to access, if this is the case.
