Well,

Its been a while since I have used this synth and after last nights session I can not believe I have been letting this synth sit for so long. It could just be my ears, but seriously this synth has such an authentic analogue sound its scary, its warm, deep and nasty!

I have been using an SH101 for years as my bass line tool of choice, I have always been in the notion that nothing can come close, and while the Prodyssey has a different character, all I gotta say is WOW.

For electronic music, this synth is just a beast, I think its in my top 3 for sure. The only downside to this synth is that it lacks the versatility of some other options, but if you want authentic analogue character, this one is sure to please.

Once I finish this choon, I will post some demo's of the nasty bass tones this monster is capable of. Also, the Vinco is a perfect compliment to this, compress the crap outta this thing and it just gets better heh.

Aren't both Arps quite comparable in sound characteristics?

Personally, I want Creamware to do something Japanese now. We already have plenty (good) american synth devices...

Yes & no. Depending on which model 2600 you have, it will have a different Filter board. Early 2600's & early MkI Odyssey's had moog-style ladder filters, for which Arp got into trouble. Arp then made their own filter boards, which came in 2 or 3 revisions & were used in all of their synths (Axxe, Avatar etc too)

What this really means when you think about it, is that a later revision Arp (MkII & III)
will *never* sound like an early MkI with moog-style filter, as the filter characteristics are different.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of playing a friend's Early 2600 (with Moog style filter) for an hour or so. It was a little bit sick & in need of TLC, but I can tell you it sounded incredible We were doing crazy stuff like modulating things with a 303 & the synth is just the filthiest thing I've heard. More so even than a sick sounding Octave Cat.

The conclusion has to be that there is NO WAY on this earth that an Odyssey could possibly make *half* of the sounds a 2600 can. The 2600 is streets ahead in terms of modulation options, which makes for a much deeper & more versatile synth.

That's a pity. But creamware has to go into development of new stuff at some point. They can't just re-package their algorithms again and again.

for filth, try wavelengths synths, especially SparC and Plastic

And for the ultimate moog sound, forget the minimoog. Look in the direction of the late revision MemoryMoog which had fully working Midi & stable tuning. Some say it was essentially an 8 voice mini with midi ... V. nice

... or a Moog modular (quite expensive to service & maintain tho)

Anyone experiment with routing analog beasts back through Scope into FX, and out again? I had my key tech. route monophonic sources from an SE-1x into Alfonso's Unison module, then Celmos Tape Sim. I must admit I was impressed. I will be experimenting further by outputing Scope into hardware now that I'm home. I did the same with my Oberheim XPander but it seemed to compress the sound, making it lose that movement I'm so familiar with. Wonder how QWave is going to sound outputted to external hardware synths.

Back to the "lost programmers" issue:

Maybe CW could hire other talented people like for example the finnish guy Antti Huovilainen.

He is very much into the maths of circuit modeling and made some amazing sounding instruments like the Taurus VSTi (still in beta), the Augur (Prophet VS emu), and the ASynth (2-osc VA with circuit modeled filters from Moog, Oberheim and Korg).
