mac or pc?
Anyway, it depends.
If you want to use mosty Scope effects/synths
you might be well with a cheap P4 pc
(like a 2,4 mHz with Intel chip motherboard
= 2 year old hi-tech  or even less.

intel still makes the d865perl mobo. after a brief drought i've been able to get them again. this and a 2-3.2ghz northwood is still one of the best, cheapest and most stable setups i've come across. if you keep your old case and drives, this mobo, a 3.2ghz northwood or prescott processor, and 1g ram corsair twinx1024-3200 will cost about $450-500.

you can't do much better than that....

if you need links to suppliers, let me know...

My AMD system with nVidia nForce3 is working great. Nice and zippy, no problems.

Hi, Shayne White
I don't know if this is the truth, but
it looks like they fixed the issue with the first nVidia nForce4 MB.
(might be other chip-sets)
I was thinking of building a Athlon x2, not for my DAW, but for other things so i looked almost "everywhere".
Now it looks like i can purchase a "outranged" office pc (p4 some 2mHz) almost free, i put "my" x2 on hold.

I think it was on the RME web, they found that a new firewire-controller fixed all issues with the "old" nForce4 MB
.......but, scope is not firewire
so i guess some of the nForce4 MB don't work for us.

Is it only me, getting olympic rings under my eyes?
