bx_digital / comments by BRAINWORX
Dear all, I understand that 598, EUR is not an easy buy for everybody, but like some of you have already mentioned: you are getting exact emulations of 2 (!) hi end mastering units, that have taken us many months of work with a lot of people enveolved.
We don´t have EXACT prices yet for the hardware (visit us in FRANKFURT MESSE on teh CW booth for that!*), but bx1 and bx2 together ( and that´s what the bx_digital is!) will rather be more than the prices that some of you have guessed.
--> We will develop this plug-in also for TDM since we already have a deal with DIGIDESIGN, and the TDM will not be less work to build and therefor not less expensive, if that´s helping anybody to hopefully not being angry at us for our pricing...
I guarantee all of you, that the bx_digital will DO THE JOB in any PROFESSIONAL mastering session! I did it already, we tested it for several months already, and everybody who heard it so far freaked out about the possibilities and the sound.
PLEASE: connect your PC to a REAL stereo (no laptop speakers!) and judge the demo...
--> We will post a new video with the release version screen-filmed next week...
--> 1 bx_digital takes about 1,5 DSPs of your Scope system.
--> It also works as a M/S matrix to insert other (even hardware analogue) EQs, with the possibility to SOLO your M and S signal (NO other unit or plug-in does that!), and a simple M/S matrix (hardware) is more than 2.000,- EUR...
I would be happy if I could explain some of the things that were unclear so far with this post...*
Feel free to mail me at dirk@brainworx-music.de ANY TIME if you have any further questions.. or post new topics here, since I will try to step by every other day and answer what ever I can... OK?*
Everybody: keep rockin´!!!*
Dirk.

hi dirk
great job! creamware should take your information strategy as an example. thanks for that.
3 further questions:
- are you working on the dual mono and stereo+mono mode jet and when will the device be updated?
- how many instances of bx_digital could i load into my project, is there a limitation (except the dsp-limit obviously)?
- it would be very interesting to hear some high quality audio examples (pre/post bx_digital). can you add some demo-files to the website?

It's nice to have you on board! High quality mastering EQs are VERY expensive! I went to have my album mastered 2 weeks ago and the studio's stereo mastering chain is worth 400 000$!!! No typo here, that's what it cost! It's a big Weiss system, very transparent and incredibly precise.
Mastering is not something that one should do on the same system used for the mix, otherwise the flaws of the room and system will mess the sound even more...
However, an excellent eq can be quite useful at the mixing stage too, but this plugin is obviously directed at the high end market, which is very good imo, especially if a mastering studio can buy a dsp card plus the plug-in for 1200 $ and use the conversion already available in the studio. I don't think there is such a deal on the market at this time... am I right?

@katano:
We will NOT limit the bx_digital, so you can use it several times in a session if you want to... your DSP power is the limit.
Fair deal?!*
We have plans for releasing the other 2 modes as software, too. But I cannot give a date for that, because right now we are very busy finishing the hardware for Frankfurt Messe...
The planetz.com people will know it first!*

i've made a test of the bx,
the eq's sounds impressive, but the mono maker seems to remove the low frequency from the stereo image, but do not add it to the mono image, it just adds volume to the already existent low frequencies of the mono image, i've made this test using a wide bass line not present in the mono image.
In my opinion it's a great tool, with this small issue to be corrected.

Unless I get to play with it at my local dealer's there's no way I'm gonna buy it based on some sample sounds. This is not the way to find out if the tool is any good for my mastering chain. It's too bad Creamware haven't come with a way to let us test the new plugins, like UAD or Powercore has it. I wonder why Creamware dropped their timed demos? Were they prone to cracks?
I'd consider it a door open rather wide
the type of function was known and when it was processed.
Things like that are not too difficult too detect - the program checks a certain result and branches accordingly - you just set it to branch regardless of whatever.
In CWA's old demo system you could generate exactly one demo per plugin for each card, which then was supposed to timeout after a certain period.
The process was fully automated, which measns one could generate a pile of demos from ALL plugins that qualified, then fiddle with the respective check and with a (hypothetical) portion of luck those plugins would turn into full versions - though still restricted to that card.
At least (imho) it would be much easier than to deal with the main install routine that exchanges keys.
Of course it's not that simple, as the code is encrypted and possibly executed in different machine languages, but well - it doesn't take much longer than a couple of minutes today to c*ack a 128 bit WEP encryption...
but even without the attempt to cra*k it, you could avoid the timeout check by a rather simple procedure for a much longer period than intended.
That's how it came to my attention btw... I often don't switch the machines off, so I left the Pulsar system on after running a demo for about an hour.
When I came back next morning it was still alive and kicking... thought about the conditions, loaded a couple of demos that I wasn't interested in at all - fired them in an A/B test and never had a timeout again
but it didn't help at all
over the years I ended with almost all devices from their shop...
they are just toooo good and well worth the money spent
cheers, Tom
