Hi everyone.

I have been using my Luna card for three years now, just as a posh soundcard. Have made some nice recordings with the analogue in/outs on the card.

Just got a second hand 2496 box and am hoping to record my drum kit using all 8 inputs. The box seems to work fine when loaded into scope 4, but cubase 3.7 does funny things! When I look in the vst mixer to monitor the inputs it only shows 'In 1R' and 'In 1L' on all channels (odds and evens), where there should be 1-4 L+R's available according to the scope manual. When I disable 1 L+R in 'inputs', the mixer changes to 'In 2L' and 'In 2R', and so on. If I connect a source to the relevant inputs on the 2496 box I get input in the mixer, but only when I have changed the cubase inputs as described. I have tried unloading the analogue modules inside scope but it doesn't seem to affect it. Have tried reloading software also.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I know cubase 3.7 is old, but then so am I! I don't want to have to change my software...

As i remember it, there should be (was )multiple VST IN/OUT on Cubase 3.7

Yes, I can monitor all the 24/96 inputs in the stm mixer.

I have been given a cracked copy of Logic5 for PC to try with my soundcard. I prefer to use cubase but the inputs all appear in Logic with no problems! I want to use my bona-fide software, but it would appear that the problem is in cubase, or its relationship with Scope/XP.

I have tried to configure the card in the ASIO setup from the start menu/programs/vst menu. There is an error message: Device cannot be opened.

Does this ring any bells?

you must add vst inputs and outputs in the vst connections window. most sequencers do this automatically, cubase does not. of course you must have enabled the proper nuumber of asio ins and outs in scope BEFORE opening cubase....

Where is the vst connections window? In scope or cubase? Sorry to sound thick but I'm not used to multi in/out stuff!

it's in cubase. i have sx. i'm not sure the naming of the function in vst, but there is a window to enable the i/o.

3.7 IS very old and there's no reason not to look at the newest version at this point. your age is immaterial, but the age of the app isn't. i would think it would work, but....

I have now tried with Cubase 5 but the problem is the same.

Anyone else have any idea? My friend is sending an 'evaluation copy' of SX for me to try. I'll post the result.

By the way, I'm only 39! I have owned this copy of cubase since 1998. It's been working flawlessly with the luna card for the last four years. It's just the multi ins/outs seem to be the problem.

Basically you have to set up the in and out busses in cubase.You change the stereo inputs to eight channels by double clicking.We're now talking about the asio dest in the routing window.All this has to be done before you start cubase.Then you start cubase, go into device setup and check that all the asio dest 16 or 24 bit are there.Then with vst connections you attribute them to busses.

Oh sorry.when you come out of the 2496 into the mixer you connect direct outs on the mixer,channel dl1 stereo to dl4 stereo for example into the asio dest driver 1L to 4R.

Thanks, yeah I've done that bit - like I said, there is input showing in cubase's mixer - but the mixer/input configuration is the wierd bit. I can only get the inputs from one 'stereo' channel of the 24/96 to work in cubase at one time. When I disable 'creamware 1/2' input in cubase, it asks do I want to remap the buses, then loads 'creamware 3/4' and they appear all across the top of the cubase mixer for every 'stereo' pair. I will take photo's later - my music pc is seperated from the internet. Looks like I might have to re-format. I think it's a funny windows/asio thing. Maybe I will try loading sx first, but just too see if it works - I don't want to learn a whole new sequencer!

use the asio scope driver(in cubase), not the asio multimedia(wav)driver. of course, place the asio source and dest modules in your project BEFORE opening cubase with the proper number of i/o enabled. i use asio2 24bit...

I have no problem understanding the ins and outs of routing - and I know how cubase handles inputs. It's so infuriating! Even SX won't load any more inputs no matter what I do. The ASIO driver tool says 'error cannot open'.

Yet I know the card works AoK because I can use every input on the 2496 in logic5.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

1st add asio dest modul up to 8 channels on scope and connect luna source to asio dests
2nd activate inputs in vst i have only german version there is (Geräte / Eingänge)
3rd activate Multirecordig!! (+ nach eingang trennen) i think this was in options menu now you should have all channels available in your vst mixer

I have done things in that order. It seems to be a hardware / driver problem.

I'm going to re-format. Also might go over to Logic 5!!!! Anyone got a copy going cheap? Don't really want to use this 'evaluation' version....

I have re-formatted.

I managed to find the way that SX chooses the driver to use and now have all my inputs available in SX.

Then put my old Cubase VST 3.7 back on and the problem is the same!

I have followed everyones advice 'to the letter' and can't believe that vst 3.7 is not capable of runnig a Z-link box in and out of Luna-II.

I may sound stubborn, but I really want to keep working as I was - my machine has been a joy - the software does me fine as a virtual tape machine with added extras - there must be something I can do!! I can't really afford a new sequencer and don't want to use 'evaluation' software!!!

I'm going to try Cubase 5 ('evaluation')again today.

Please help if you can - any little thing you can think of. Thanks.

As soon as I saw the input selector bit it all came flooding back! I once printed out the entire Cubase 3.5 manual and took it on holiday to read on the beach (you can imagine the size of the folder!) I should have known that one but hadn't looked it up! Just assumed that they woul appear like magic.
