hmm, the thing with normal drum sounds can be frowned upon, depending on which community you play this to. I've had that happen more than a dozen times. IDM people are more receptive of drums, pure electroacoustic people mostly aren't. Can't do too much with chromatic harmony either.
The rest is just how you play the politics and present your stuff. Like, it may be cool if you're dressed correct, and not cool if you're in a AC/DC t-shirt and ripped jeans. that type of thing. Oh the game of experimental music.
Personally, I joined in, met a few people, saw some of these "rules", and quickly left the scene.
