As tourists, this is one of the things we should be cautious of. Always should be careful and watchful when traveling to new places-any places.

-----------------------------

Russia and Its weak guests Protection

You should be more cautious when you are walking in the streets of St. Petersburg and Moscow because crimes and snatching are widespread here.

Russia is one of the key centers of tourism in the world, having lots of spectacular and picturesque destinations. But, do not be fooled by its beauty...

It seems like all the local " Godfather types " are here in Brighton Beach knocking down some major cash. They are as smart as the old wise guys were, they know that everyone knows what they are doing, but have no fear of the American judicial system, or their correctional facilities. Guess the ones in Russia are insensative to their inmates, as we have cable TV, and Internet connections, don't scare me much either. Russia just jumped into the free market so fast that it caused alot of discontent. As an American, I can say that free market economy, and freedom don't come cheap. I hope the people who live there can fix their situation, as tourism is a great source of revenue. I am fortunate, I live in Las Vegas which thrives off of tourism. Hell just a few years ago we wanted to kill the commies, now they have SFP and I talk to guys from former Soviet bloc countries, and Russia all the time. I guess the Reagan/Bush guys did a good job of getting rid of communism in Eastern Europe, and bringing down that " Iron Curtain".

True, I've heard Tokyo, Paris and come to think of it ...New York have similar problems. Big cities all over the globe seem to have there fair share of low-lifes preying on the tourists.

I heard that down in remote parts of Brazil and Venezuala, tourists and explorers go missing too. But I believe they don't hold them 4 ransom money, they just cook 'em in a big kettle and eat them.

When I went to Bogota a few years ago, the locals told me it had been a really low kidnap count that year - only 361 so far.

It was mid-March....
