I always stop in to check on my boys under the bridge and since the weather is cooler now, 90-100 farenheit daily, they are afoot once again. This old black bro came up with me to grab a 6 of Bud and saw my gear. He says, " Wow, nice SKB's." I then asked him if he played, and he said he was a bassist till he met the video poker games and free alcohol which is in abundance here in LV. I pulled out my Fender P Bass and let him play and I was shocked!! This cat could wail on the 4 string like mad. I told him I could score him a gig if he cleaned up a little, well O.K. a lot, and took him to St. Vincents where he could get a bed and food with a sponsor, if he was willing to work a few times a week 4 the catholic charities group. So we shall see what happens. I have played with many great bassists and this guy is top notch, especially considering he hasn't touched a bass for years and just started slapping the shit out of my P!! I would love to see him gain employment, but the battle against his demons may be strong, but music conquers all. He would be the perfect bassist in my fusion band which I plan on doing again when I tire of being a dance whore 4 big bucks. I shall wait and pray.

I went to one of his intimate concerts in Paris we were about 50 in all. I met Jaco there an it was unrecognisable, it was the most stupid person you could ever meet. I couldn’t belief my eyes, there it was my idol, THE “bass master” of all times... but he played like the worst amateur bass player in the world, it would constantly take lots of alcohol and drugs, he kept insulting his own musicians all the time, in front of everybody, played solos whenever he wanted too, stopping his partners performance, played the piano now and then, so childish, very unpleasant, and declared loudly to be a genius, this is perhaps the only thing that was true about him...

For me it was a shock and went out crying like a baby, my idol was death...

I can’t remember how long after this concert he was killed in USA, but it was no longer after. He was a drunkard; he finished his life being a complete degeneration of what he was. Drugs and alcohol are such a pest!

Both Jaco and your black bro probably needed some type of medication ....... I doubt that will change even with a gig... best wishes

Sometimes a good motivation and something to rebuild self appreciation can be the best medication, or at least it's the only basis on wich you can hope that some "chemical" medications will have a full effect...but human mind can show some amazing possibilities. Let's hope....
