What is the best backup software?

Drive image failed for me early on and I want to replace it. What should I get? Another problem is testing because of the DRM in NI products and now I suspect in Windows too. I can't just restore a drive anymore. I have to jump through all these hoops and I hate it.

- I'm thinking of some usb hard drive.
They got included software for backup - and not so much more expencive.
(i only use drag and drop - but save everything (almost) on at least 2 hd's)

They have both dos and windows version of the software. Dos version looks and feels a bit like northon ghost. You can make byte to byte exact copy of your hd. There is also very handy verify feature to make sure your image is 100% correct.

I agree with Acronis True image for a HD system backup.
And for your audio files Viceversa Pro(
http://www.tgrmn.com/ ). You can create a shortcut for create a backup process of diferent files and folders to a diferent hard disk destination.
It is very usefull for me.

You can't beat Acronis True Image. It is as said earlier, "simply the best." Though I have to say I prefer version 8 to version 9.
By the way, I used to use Norton Ghost a couple of years ago, but I much prefer Acronis.

I have always used Ghost but have now tried Trueimage. What bothers me with Trueimage is what happens if the computer doesn't start at all?
With Ghost I use a startup diskette, then loading the image from several splitted DVD-RW discs, so in 40min I'm back with all setup again.
As I run trueimage now I must have Windows up-and-running to be able to restore, but you can maybe create some kind of start diskettes....

from the acronis manual:
With Rescue Media Builder you can create bootable rescue disks or their ISO images. You might not need this tool if you purchased a boxed product that contains a bootable CD. Installing the Rescue Media Builder will allow you to create bootable media or its ISO image at any time running Rescue Media Builder on its own.

Do they let you use Acronis on more than one computer or is it possible? Does it have DRM?
