Hi guyz !
Is the following configuration good (and trouble-free) for Scope operation ?

- CPU QUAD Q6600
- ASUS P5K
- 2 GB RAM DDR2 800
- ATI X1550XT PCIEXPRESS VIDEO CARD
- SEAGATE 320 GB HD SATA
- 500 W POWERSUPPLY
- Scope Professional 15 dsp (with ULLI)

Of course with latest Bios, drivers, and so on for everything.

If you have some better suggestions (motherboard, graphic card , etc) please let me know.

Is this configuration ok for old Pulsars too (early ones with 4 dsps and not ULLI)?

Hello guy,

Look at the matrox video card, I think they are better for working and they have more video out. You can have 4 video screen and with scope it's very good, because you can have 1 screen for scope, 1 for your DAW and & for the plugs or STM mixer. I have the p750 with 3 screen and it's very helpful.

For the motherboard, prefer an Intel one, they are better for working too, and the proc are developped on intel card.

For ram prefer, kingston or corsair.

And yes, if you have PCI and you must, you can you your old pulsar1 card.

Intel motherboards are more difficult to find here in my town; ASUS are the easiest way to go here. If you think that P5B ASUS is better please let me know.
Thanks for the matrox tip, although matrox are difficult to find too (only nvidia or ati here as "easy to find" option).

You can find intel and matrox, on the net. And sometimes it's better to buy on the net because it's cheaper.

is the AGP days over? - Is there MB with AGP slots for Graphic cards anymore?
Or do i need to abandon my P650 if i upgrad my beloved P4 ?

Don't know where to go yet (if i am to go) - maybe a asus p5k with E6850 and 4Gb ........we'll seee

The world has long since moved on... PCIe 2.0 systems are debuting this winter.

However AGP cards can still be found if you don't mind something last generation (outside of perhaps 1 ati card by some oddball maker for the current gen). For gaming a bit of tweaking in your game's config files can usually make things playable. My aging Xeon system is a testimony to this lol....

But Xeons are the best CPU's period. I remember the smooth powerful Dual Xeons from years ago that housed the SAW Studio DAW's that are still being used in showrooms all over Las Vegas. The app was actually made here if memory serves me well

It's not real popular like C4, Sonar, or ProTools, but many playback audio engineers here in town swear by it, and the Xeons.

ATI video card sometime give crakles and pops ,better one NVIDIA

well, that was not exactly arelas question, imho
he already has an agp card and wanted to know if he has to throw it away with the purchase of a current mobo (and this will be mostly the case. there may be some, but usually they are not cheap).

arela, you can, nevertheless, go for the matrox qid lp with pci-e. not exactly cheap either, but supports four screens

yeah, or an inexpensive nvidia card will do a great job if you only need two screens....

i wouldn't throw the old card away, though. put it on ebay...

I 've got a nvidia 6600 pcie card for this (my surfing pc) and it work well with 2 monitors - and quiet - no fans. It might be an option.
Thx all - i did forget about this issue when i thought about upgrading, but i guess its easly fixed

so... a system with p5k asus + q6600 + ati x1550 will be fine and trouble-free with scope boards (1st or 2nd generation)? No glitches , no stutter ?

i would think so, if set up properly.
personally, i prefer the nvidia cards, but i see no reason to expect problems.

i'd have another hard drive in there, maybe an 80g for programs and samples and a 200g for audio recording instead of one 300g....

Of course I'll put another harddrive for samples and another one for audio too (all sata i think), sorry if i didn't specify it . I just meant it as a base system without additional harddrives that obviously they would have been added .
I am planning to install Windows XP without AHCI (without putting floppy hitting f during XP install) , also because it seems that P5K doesn't support AHCI with latest bios versions , for what i can see/read... i don't understand why , but they removed it!
Please correct me if i am wrong ...

i don't think you really need to do anything special with the xp install, i don't know a specific problem with doing as you plan, however....
