iv decided to upgrade my pc, its been such a long time since i researched parts that im totally lost. iv searched this forum looking for suggestions, but im still somewhat confused. my goal is not to have the fastest computer ever built. what im after is i whant to be able to load and stream alot of samples, and offcourse be able to use my three sc cards, and later xcite.

The motherboard is what i find hardest to decide on. So far my sketch is

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz

Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5

2*Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB, SATA-300, 32MB, 7200RPM (will it be quiet)

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

does this sound like a good solution?

and can i keep my old graphics card matrox g550?

thx for any help i an get.

my current pc is a p4 1.8 with 1 gig ram so i guess its time to upgrader.

If you're going to stream tons of samples, you should probably go for the fastest memory and hard drives you could get..
There is a Crucial Ballistix 4GB kit which is a bit faster than the corsair (CL4 instead of 5), and WD just released the 10K RPM Velociraptor 300 GB hard drives. (see this thread)

If your matrox card is PCIe, you can keep it.. If it's PCI it's going to impact the PCI buffer and will leave only two PCI slots left.. If it's AGP, then not with this motherboard.

I have an old AGP Matrox card and it conditionned the choice of my motherboard when I upgraded my DAW, since I wanted to keep it at all costs.

the E8XXX series of CPU will run even cooler, so you can have a quieter fan
3ghz is the E8400 or the Xeon 3110 (exactly the same thing and the board will work fine with it. thats what im using)
