Hello,
I have finally bought a new system...I choose a gigabyte p-35-ds3l/s3l motherboard...And i have stupidly not read the Neutron considerations about it on the tech forum...So with only one pulsar board installed , ihave a "pci capacity reached message" even when i load one synth!Strangely i can use it after i have made retry...
I really dont know what to do...It' seems that pulsar dont share any irq...And in the bios you dont have a pci latency timer or anything that seems tweakable...I have evidently disabled the onboard audio fonction...Any advices from experts? Thank you in advance...A very dark Darkbear...
pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
first of all - ist that 'Pulsar' a 4 or a 6 DSP card ?
and that 'synth' ... is Minimax ?
you really can ignore (today) all the other items mentioned, regarding 'PCI bandwidth'
the board either has a good performance, or it doesn't
it's a bit oversimplifying, but hits it fairly well.
if your card is a 4 DSP version, then you may have a different kind of trouble.
these cards seem to have problems with some modern chipsets, that may show up as PCI error
I have 3 such cards, and recently noticed a very 'interesting' failure - but I need to switch back to my old 815 board to verify that it's chipset depending.
In any case those 'generation 1' boards have a different IO-system and a lower PCI performance by default.
cheers, Tom

Thank you for your reply Astro...Yes my board is a pulsar1 and the synth is Minimax...You are right...In fact the problem appears in a chaotic way...So it can confirm that's a problem with my pulsar one...i have just to become rich and bought a x-cite...
Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
well, you may refer to the results in the MasterVerb Test thread:
a system based on Pulsar Ones (only) cannot exceed 5 Masterverbs, which isn't a real problem for a single card as it can run only 4 instances with the available processing power.
If I remember correctly Minimax has this 'chaotic' behaviour regardless of the mobo chipset - the effects engine (delays) seems to overflow the PCI bus on loading, but succeeds if you press the confirm button of the 'reorganisation message'. On my system it also complains about a lack of processing resources occasionally, but also runs fine after confirming the message.
It's a bit inconvenient, but wouldn't really concern me.
What does concern me instead is that on my recent CoreDuo System based on a Gigabyte 946 the SPL Transient Designer is completely screwed in the low frequency domain.
I have double checked that there's no distortion whatsoever in the preamp chain of my (electric) bass, but as soon as TD is in the chain it distorts ugly on attack increase, even with the meters far below the red area

I know that bass processing with TD worked perfectly on the trusted Asus TUSL board before.
Possibly the card became a bit unreliable (it's about 10 years old...) or maybe there's a hidden incompatibility with newer chipsets and DualCore CPUs.
To be sure I'll have to setup the old system again.
I also noticed a lack in transparency of the sound output - comparing it to my Boss Loopstation pedal.
cheers, Tom

Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
With my old system, i can mix with asio 24 bit, now it's impossible...I just wandering if install a newer pulsar card as a master board, using the pulsar 1 as a slave, does this reduce the pci stress ? I suppose i have to use a stdm cable and make a new install...But maybe the problem could be just worst...Anyway, thank you all for your replys...And if i have totally read the topic i have open before and the Neutron advice i'llnever make this mistake...I am a moron..

Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
i had problems with asio and the gigabyte ds3r and the problems vanished after downgrading the bios and didabling some usb-ports . i don´t know if it is the same with the ds3l. my problems did occur as crackling and glitches. if you like to took a look at what happened exactly goto

Hi Astroman,
Do you know if Pulsar 1 works on PCI bus rev 2.3?
Cheers

Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
There are a lot of threads on the Sonar forum about these Gigabyte P35 series boards and their DPC latency issues. Could this be relevant here ?
http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1359651&mpage=5&key=
I also read there that at the urging of many Sonar members Gigabyte wrote a special BIOS just for them to eliminate the latency spikes.

Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
First , thank to all for your replys and advices...I have download this (useful!) utillity:
http://www.thesycon.de/eng/free_download.shtml
Any musician have to download it !
I make a victorious test on my system , so it seems my mobo is not concerned by the dpc latency problem...
In a fews days i 'll receive a luna 2, i 'll install it as a master board...I will see if the problem persists or is worst, or maybe with a miracle, vanishes...
If it persists , i will change my mobo...It's not so expensive , the main problem it's to make again a new fresh installl...It takes so much time and it's so hazardous...

Re: pci capacity with gigabyte p-35
I have it in a Gigabyte GA-946GMX-S2, the specs on the website don't give the exact PCI version.MD69 wrote: Do you know if Pulsar 1 works on PCI bus rev 2.3? ...
PCI performance is as good as in Intel 815 (as far as the 'slow' generation 1 board allows), but since I have that mobo there's the afforementioned problem with TD. There may be more ... but no crashes or error messages.
I'll have to replace the board to be sure - it might as well be just a funny coincidence

cheers, Tom
