Look for a penryn (45nm/6MB cache) if you can afford.

which chipset? probably other brands are currently more reliable than asus (intel, abit...)

What type? DDR2800? it depends on the mobo, check it!. What access timings? Other brands may be more convenient with same quality (Corsair, OCZ...)

other important technical data are missing from the decription (type of hd...), so I cannot say anything.

The mobo chipset is very important (north & southbridge), you should pay particular attention selecting the mobo, a P45 based should work fine, but here garyb may give you some advice.

I will be the Guinnea Pig for the P45/E8600 combo.

P35 right now w/ Scope cards is fast, stable, and easy to configure. 14 - 16 instances of MVerb Pro.

The PCI-e connection and a P45 might or might not be an improvement, but I have the P35 to fall back on just in case.

I will have to make a decision on my motherboard by next week. I am banking on a 1X, as all other PCI-e cards, even the 64bit flavor are on 1X. 4X is mostly reserved for RAID controllers, and eSATA port mulitpliers. 8/16X for video and dual SLI GPU cards.

I am really excited ( no pun intended ) about the new set up and DAW config. And proud to have GaryB as my builder.

He's like a mad scientist when I watch him. Last time me and Kensuguro left and hours later came back to dark room to watch more Japenese Cartoons w/ killer synth music, and videos of weird worldly figures at the Grove. Way Cool stuff for sure. GaryB and I immediately post the MVPro results while we are still in the build process. All of us are really sick.

Brotha' Man Catscratch,.....Buy if you must, but we will have the first unit shipped to the US probably. While others advertise it, we will be in neck deep, and post back w/ the results that very night. We will also do a 64bit install if time allows. That is not as important though, as this box will be used live almost immediately. In due time 64bit should be mature enough to test out.

BTW, this will be a DFI P45 mATX w/ an Intel E8600. My apps semm to take benefit of Dual Cores but not four or eight, which are unecessary at this time.
