Hello.
Here it looks like XP doesn't allow for hot swap/plug with sata disks.
Do I miss any update, or... does any special driver for Intel ICHx chipsets is needed?
At now I solved using this tool
http://mysite.verizon.net/kaakoon/hotswap/index_enu.htm
Not a long time I'm using it but, it works.
As for detaching it's effective as the windows' USB feature.
A manual search for connected devices has to be launched for the hot plug.
Being used to USB devices it could look busy. This way though the whole tool can be launched only when needed; disabling the autorun feature, there will be 2812 KB less in the background task list.
Using e-sata disks it's a very usefull tool..
Other solutions around?
sata hot swap/plug
Re: sata hot swap/plug
I've read around hot swap is supported by the driver of Intel ICH10 controller.
Considering ICH6 and ICH9 chipsets can perform hot swap using the tool, i guess it's kind of a driver issue...
I tried using the new hardware search by XP, but added sata disks are not recognized.
HotSwap! v4.1.1.0 recognize them...

Re: sata hot swap/plug
About boot from e-sata:
My current HDD box (the one I'm gonna give to my brother for pictures storage, remember?
) have no fan inside and disks become quite hot after half an hour...
What about this?

Re: sata hot swap/plug
I'm realizing that the hot plug by HotSwap! v4.1.1.0 could be more busy than I noticed at first, on my machines... Anyway it works..
