Is it possible to build a compressor that shows you a realtime view
of how the audio file is being processed. Would be nice to see an A/B
graphical view.

Optimaster? For the A/B thing you could switch the compressor on & off.

You'd be better off analyzing with a decent standalone app that gave you a high res spectrum as well though...
