Panasonic (the manufacturer of Technics) have announced that production of the world famous Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 DJ turntables will stop at the end of February 2010, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.

“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” explained Panasonic Australia spokesman Ian North.

If you are interested in securing a pair of the legendary turntables before they are gone, we have a limited number left in stock at DMC.

well, there are probably nearly enough in circulation already. every part is made replaceable and there are lots of part sources, so DJs should still be able to use them for quite a while. they are almost never beyond repair.

Well it went from the Mk2 to the Mk3d, then the Mk4 (which disappeared fast for some reason) and finally the Mk5. I believe the Mk5 has a digital stepping motor, which some don't like because you don't get the same 'drift' when you gently nudge the pitch fader.

In any case I read this as the production on the SL1200 is done entirely (the Mk5 being the 'currently' produced model.)
