SAMPLE RATES IN V5 - PROBLEM SOLVED

Hey there

ive just upgraded to scope v5 on win 7 and i cannot use sample rates 48k or 96k.
when i select them i cannot hear any audio, at this stage i have only tried playing audio using windows media player.

when i was on win XP, scope 4.5, i was able to change sample rates in scope, and windows media just played files without any issues.

also when i go into the device manager/sound video game controllers/sonic core pulsar/properties/settings - preferred bit rates 24 & 32 are greyed out and i cannot select them.
i know that the bit rate is unrelated to sample rates, but i wanted to move up from 16bit/44.1k and start recording on 24bit/96k.

im just using the default project that started up with scope v5, is it a scope project issue?

any suggestions?

i don't know what your samplerate problem is, although i'm not surprised that media player doesn't like 96k. as to the 16bit thing, that's normal. bitrate is chosen in Scope depending on which software i/o modules you use, so the windows device manager setting is meaningless.

well win7 is more "consumer" in the way that it handles certain audio tasks like media player, so...

the greyed out bitdepth option in the properties page existed in xp, too...

:D i'll bet you did.

things like media player are much more deeply embedded into win7 than xp, afaik...

hey guys

stardust - im not worried about bit depths, just sample rates. thanks anyway.

pling - when i go into my sound properties i dont get an advanced tab in properties, only General & Levels

i havent changed the sample rate while media player is open, im aware it doesnt cope with the change while its open.

???

what would make you think that a consumer product like media player should operate at 96k? i'm not saying that it shouldn't, but...

WMP plays all files at 96k in Win XP
this problem is only occuring in Win7

yes, i understand that. windows audio is handled differently in win7 than in xp, as i said before. possibly, there IS a bug, but it'll be up to S/C to confirm that. i haven't heard of others complaining about this, but perhaps this bump of the topic will invite more witnesses...

did you check the analog out's properties? spdif out has no advanced tab.

win media center seems to be automatically offline from the driver while it is only on pause, no need to stop or close it. once i accidently changed the SR while it was running and it went surprisingly well. i could reproduce that several times.
the BSOD came when i tried the same with foobar or winamp. sorry for confusion :D
