Album: All Life is One (Casio 8 Bit + Analog)

Styles: Dark Ambient, Industrial, French electro-pop, lo-fi 8 Bit, French Dub (!)

All phrases were recorded like traditional instruments (not sequenced). Instruments are mostly analog synthesizers (1975 Moog, Dave Smith PEK, etc). Also used is a tiny 8-Bit Casio SK-1 piano toy from 1985. Aside from the occasional choirs and orchestra instruments (Miroslav library), the sounds are all sculpted from scratch, even the weird wind/trains, on the analog gear. Everything is recorded using the SCOPE environment which I love, and an old version of Cubase. You will notice that not everything is "square" timing-wise, not quantized in any way. This is what I wanted.

The tracks BASIQUE 1 and BASIQUE 2 (both free) were 100% made on the 8 Bit Casio SK-1. VALENTINE 2005 is mostly the Casio, with a Micromoog. The Casio was also used throughout 90% of the rest of the album, but not always in obvious ways!! I had a lot of fun pushing the Casio, and am planning a FULL 8 Bit CASIO LP next :)

The bar for me was "do I have goose bumps", when listening to the tracks. NOT "how can I please this or that crowd". It is a very special album that is dear to my heart.

Who knows, you may also enjoy it.
PLAY IT LOUD.

Thank you for listening.

Manuel

Thanks for listening, and for the kind words guys.

My next album will be 100% 8 Bit: Casio SK-1 toy + Gameboy, recorded and finished in SCOPE of course!

If you like what you hear, please share the link with folks you know who would also enjoy the album. I appreciate the support between fellow SCOPE artists!

Takes me back indeed - I'd forgotten how useful those little keyboards can be!

My late 80's rig was a modded SK5, Tascam cassette 4-track, cheap mic, bass & guitar. In the days before i got an Atari and a Mirage. In a strange coincidence i remember recording a two-year-old boy saying "hello" (well, it came out more like "hayo hayo") on the SK around '89, with a loop of swinging sixteenth-note underarm fart samples to back it up. Early Digital Audio Babysitting Technique :D

Keep up the good work. Viva 8-bit :)

Very interesting story, and indeed what a coincidence about sampling the kid using the Casio. Thank you for your post. Do you happen to have a recording of the song(s)?

Thank you for taking the time to listen.
Take care
