Hey gang
Here's one.....
I tried to install a Belkin 3port FW Pci card last night.
Computer hangs on boot up. I have 3 Scope cards (1x6 dsp and 2x4dsp)
in PCI slots 2-4. I tried it in the 5th slot and the first. Hangs in
both cases. Take it out, everything works fine.
IRQ issue???? Need it so I can run a newly aquired used SSL Duende rack.
That is the only reason I need FW.

HELP......windows xp sp3 on a Gigabyte GA8-SR533P ver2 motherboard.

start\programs\accessories\system tools\system information\hardware resources\confilcts/sharing is the Scope card there?

if you can't get to there because of system hang, it could be a bad firewire card.

Yeah I can't even get it to boot when the card was in.

no, you hope that it IS a bad card.

otherwise, your motherboard just won't support all those PCI slots at once.

you know, another reason that you might have a problem like that is the power supply. if you have a low wattage or a generic/no-name high wattage supply, there might not be enough juice to support all those devices.

hmm....I just checked and it's an atx 400w supply.

Pulsar cards.....PERISH THE THOUGHT!!!!
But the allure of SSL plugins is calling LOL!!!!

they're good. but they're not on a different level than the better Scope plugins. don't even get the idea that i'm poo-pooing the use of the Duende, though! more good quality gear is always good(as long as there's room in the rack).

400watt might be enough if it's a really high quality power supply(you'll KNOW if it is). if it isn't a really high quality supply, that might be the problem. i can't garuntee that, but it's a good quality guess. do you have another supply to test?

I wish I had another PSU to try. Maybe someone I know has one....
I totally get what you're saying with regards to the "quality"
of the plugins. I don't have any of the third party "higher end"
plugins. Just the stock ones, but they ARE killer. Definately on par
if not better than some of the majors. However, the SSL "sound"
is something that I don't think anyone but SSL can get right. It's
their algo. THAT is what I want to put into the tracks. That "sheen"
if you will that really, only SSL has. The bus compressor alone is enough
for me. But, again, the stock Creamware plugs ARE VERY good.

well, DAS did a fair job modeling SSL.
i wouldn't say that the SSL sound is something that will make or break a production, although it's certainly a desirable sound.

again, more choices is always nice!

Not only that but with the new DAS Optimised C350L version, its possible to run 32 instances (@ 44.1) as inserts in a 32 track mix - and that just on the lower DSP XITE-1D.
