Sorry guys, I thought it was released as vsti, but I read it wrong, it's still a DSSI synth.

Just catching up on kvr news.. Hexter's been around for a while, a dx7 DSSI synth. Loads dx7 patches directly and I believe it's compatible even at the sysex level. I'm not sure if it "sounds" exactly like one as in, modeling the entire signal path (DA converters and such), but I guess synthesis wise it does the same thing.

and it was for me the most difficult thing in the world..., everything was difficult in those days when trying to program a sound anyway, for its time, those sounds were absolutely over the top, wonderful instrument!

martin who created dxconvert for atari

and now for python which is linux pc and mac compatible

he did the sysex load on this synth

what is good about it he kept it modelled on the dx7 no frills like fm7 or fm8

so you get the 12bit emulation sound of the original and with the sysex load you can get all the
sysex files from the dx7 yahoo forum group along with dxconvert and txconvert which also does the .opm support

so all the old games sysex .opm files can be converted to play on the dx7

there are thousands of free ware patches

Maybe I´m blind, but I cannot find the download link for the VSTi.

I searched the web and found some entries reporting a Hexter v1.3 VST from 2005 already.

I buyed one of the early DX7, then a TX816 and KX88 in addition, replaced DX7 by DX7mkIIFD and KX88 by KX76 later,- buyed a TG77 in addition ... well ... FM love.

Up to now, I couldn´t find any VST software loading Yammy FM sysex and sounding the same than the hardware, even not NI FM7 or FM 8.

DX7mkIIFD just restored and KX76, KX5, TX816 and TG77 still here and in good condition,- QX-1 too.

Now I cannot decide for what to sell ...

I like the DX7 and KX76 actions, these trigger ultra fast.
TG77 kills for FM anyway and has unbelievable low end which killed the rubber suurounds of one of my Tannoy 8" dual concentric monitor pairs.
8 instances of FM8 to replace a TX816 need a lot of CPU even not sounding like the real deal and when I´ve read about QX-1 usage positioning VDATs via MIDI for direct recordings w/o VST at all, I decided not to dump it and if I´d sell it I won´t get much too.

I´d wish DAS FM07 reads/loads sysex though but my guess is, 8 of these use much DSP too ...

Wow, you went through the whole Yamaha gamut, that is a honor

tx802 is 8x dx7 and they are 16bit

the tx8xx modules use dz7 12bit modules

my favourite is the sy99 and the tx81z

the tx81z has a punchier transient than the 6op synths

i did lots of sampled comparison for martin for dx/tx convert program

and for conversions and how they sounded different on each machine

the sy77/99 are the smoothest sounding

the tx81z was punchy and could do most dx7 sound due to the extra waveforms

the fm7 and fm8 dont even come close to sounding

sytus by image line sound good

as does rhino

but they dont get the aliasing sound of the dx7 range which is musical

heter is the closest sounding softsynth and with mikes sysex conversion algo it loads most dx7 type banks be it .dx7 .syx .dat

hexter runs on that and its linux or unix

Oh duh, I read it wrong, I read it as released as vsti. I wished. I think hexter is one of the few linux synths that are worth your time.
