STM 2448/Mixers sounds dull...
Has anybody the same problem?

The file without STM2448 has much more highs...thats the problem.
Its the same Song recorded in Cubase 8.5.
One file through STM 2448, the other directly in Asio 2 Dest 64.
The Mixer makes the sound dull.
The top end is gone through 2448.
Thats my problem

is phase compensation on?

the STM2448 mixer sounds REALLY, REALLY good here, much better than the Cubase mixer..

Garyb I think that Thomson recorded with Cubase mixer in both ways...
And I did it as well with Asio2Dest62 by using your own wavs Thomson...

The Loudness is different,,, Passing through stm2448 there seems a compression/limiting at the louder parts of 0.2db.........in STM scopes meters

In my case that I recorded 2 ways again... your Wav... passing through stm2448 gave me """0.1db less"

The sound quality I think is great through STM mixer.... but I will test a little more with my genelcs1032A and Sehnheiser650 headphones.....
Sequenser I used Samplitude.........

I hear the difference, are you sure there is no EQ on that synth sound (trance gated filter sweep) in the STM mix?

Loudness Exactly the same.... 1.through mixer to asio dest 2.directly to asio dest

Thanks for observation.... I believe that it can be fixed with SDK...

In my opinion it can be considered as a STM2448 characteristic... of 0.2% loudness difference
But since STM 4896 bypasses 100%, I will keep STM4896 from now on...

There is no eq in 2448 and no phase compensation.

Here´s an new test running through 1632...only drums and Guitar.
Its same ...no top end

4896 tested?

enable phase compensation. without it, inputs can be slightly out of phase. with it, not, but it uses a bit more dsp.

if you don't like the sound, don't use it. there's nothing wrong with the STM2448's sound.

no quality loss.... ""dull"" is not representative

I just tested the 48/96 mixer.
I bet the other mixers are identical.

Well, the overall output passing through the mixer is 0.09 dB lower.
That is for all frequencies.

So whoever performed these tests don't know what he is talking about...


p.s. A mixer can't compress or filter, a mixer adds like 1 + 1 = 2.

p.s.2. Only if there is a phase problem a mixer can act like a filter, but like a comb filter not a lowpass.

I am not talking about any output/loudness problems using STM Mixers.
Its the top end which is gone through the SC Mixers.
Just made a new test using 4896...phase comp on or off. It gave me the same result.

The sound muffles recording through STM.
Am i the only one who can here it ?

I´ll make some new tests using 3rd Party Mixers at the weekend .

Obviously you are doing something wrong.

You don't have to hear it you smart guy use some meters and makes your testing.

Asio 2 Source(Cubase) running through a stereo channel in STM Mixer.
Mix out from STM is connected to Asio 2 Dest 64.
Without STM Asio Source is directly connected to Asio 2 Dest.

I would prefer a pick.

If you have this problem, because i don't have it, in Xite or in PCI,
i would recommend you to make a reinstall,
eliminate anything that may confuse you, in general try to find what is the problem with your setup and the test.

I bet your mix sounds better through a "dull" mixer and best when not heard at all

there is no need for such offense I think...........
the stm 2448 wavs that Thomson uploaded were not the same...
Now according to the sound, ok maybe he is wrong about the quality, but we are here to talk about every detail and performance capabilities of our system....

Ok sometimes the discussion goes to very minor issues......but who can judge that?
