Hi,

has anyone an old blue A16 ?

I purchased one cheap one and it works fine but it gets very hot.
After disassembling the A16 i have seen that in the past there was a Fan installed. So i decided to mount a new fan on the right side and connect it to 7V from the internal power-supply.

But it still gets hot. And after a while the all 16 clipping LEDs are permanent enlightened.
But even if there is no signal on input. but it is still working in both directions without any clipping.

I don't find anything in the Manual about the LEDs.
And is it normal that it gets so hot ? any solution for that ?

they do get hot, but i'm not sure if yours is normal temperature or not.

are you sure you have the correct power supply with enough amperage?

i will have a look @ home .. i think it is original.
Its AC / AC 18V 2A ?

that sounds about right. i don't know for sure, unfortunately.

2A should be much enough : Check page 14 : voltage 18 - 21V for 25W. So, the current should be around 25/21= 1.2A.

And page 12, they say things about led... But I don't have this unit !

So the PSU is labeled with:

MPE ADAPTER AC/DC Type AT.15 In220 50Hz out 18V 2A

i checked the voltage with no load it has about 25V with A16 connected its at 21V

so i tried it now with a 18V stabilised power supply
It dont get Hot until now but only slightly warm.. that feels better but after some minutes all Clipping LEDs are glowing as before.
If i switch it off and on all LEDs are still on. If i switch it off for 5 miunutes the LEDs works normal as a cliping light.

And it does not change if it is master or slave. Its only connected via ADAT without wordclock.

Your power supply seems to be fine...

Do you mean all the clipping leds are glowing after 5 mn without any sound ? If they are, I would say it's a bit strange, indeed !

Leds of any device can remain on 2 or 3 mn after switching off because of capacitor...

Does the unit make its job correctly ? Is the sound normal ?
I read (in old internet pages) that the A16 makes a lot of noise because of its fan... Is the fan working ? https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much ... erter.html (3° message)

These guys make anything you need.
I tried 2 spare PSUs from them and they also swap out internal PSUs.
Now I have about 20 of thier devices and I cant emphasize enough how great these guys are.

So all seems to be fine now..

as i wrote in the beginning of this Thread i already installed a small Fan on the right side of the PCP there seems to be a "slot" for a Fan.
But what i read as standard there is no Fan installed. Also i dindnt find any connector. So i soldered it on the Power supply PCB on 7V.
Also it seems to be quality made in 1997 and i found no inflated capacitors!

And i switched the External Power supply to an universal stabilized Wall-plug PSU. with 18V 1.5A.

Now i mounted it in to a Rack so that there is some Air Ventilation under the A16

Now it gets Warm.. not HOT as with the original PSU.
Until now the CLIP LEDs are off exept it is clipping

I think a problem is that it was made for 220V and it is unstabilized and we have now here in Germany 230V maybe it has to high output Voltage for the LM Voltage Regulators in the A16 so the LMs gets very Hot. Or it is to old

So far i am happy now
