We've seen a lot of interesting posts on this sampler family recently, which suggests its a very popular use of Pulsar.

Wonder if a dedicated STS forum, along the lines of the Modular forum would make sense.

I can appreciate that the PlanetZ tree has sprouted quite a few branches, but I like the idea of these dedicated sub-forums, and STS is particularly intersting to me.

What do other Z'ers think. Also, John Cooper, is this a real pain to implement?

I agree that would be usefull, it's true that sampling in general is a world by itself.

And yes, i think that STS is very widely used amongst pulsar user, it's quite easy to use an powerfull. Ok, i already ear some giga fans, and yes giga is more powerfull, but the STS is still one of the best and easyest sampler i ever worked with.

A bunch of things can be learn from a sampler... A Modular thread? Then a STS thread? That would make sense!

Not a pain at all to implement. Just a question if people want another forum.

I often find that when a forum gets overbranched, everyone just starts posting and reading the general forum only

But I don't mind making the extra forum if people vote to do it. Peoples, what say you?

Sounds like a good idea to me, but if it doesn't take off just remove it!

I agree also, it's true that too much is worst than not enough in this particular case.

Not that I'm a frequent STS user, but I noticed some people like to exchange .sts files. Made with samples we all have on our cd's.

Maybe it would be nice to have an .STS attachment option, like in the Songs or Projects forum. I think SpaceF would be pro!

Am I the only one not to like the idea of the mentioned forum?

Generally I agree with you all, but I think there are more disadvantages than advantages.

1. The main is that our community will divide into very specialized groups of interests. If somebody finds an interesting thread for him in, say, 'problems...' forum he will probably read a neighbour-sts thread, too. If there will be a special sts forum he will just not enter it...
2.The second disadvantage is a probable mess: look at existing forums: are they always filled with topics they are created for?
3. Remember about people are entering PlanetZ for the first time: the simplier, the more friendly - the more complex - the less friendly.
4. If somebody is interested in sts only - he would have to enter other forums, too to make sure he wouldn't miss anything about the sampler...
5. In the future there would be groups of people wanting, say, the new PulsarMixer forum, the masterVerb forum, etc.

How do you like this  http://www.edbpriser.dk/community/forum/forum.asp

That is actually a very easy place to navigate. With that kind of multi-categori-forums (they are al computer related though), it is very nice to have a page with active threads since your last visit. The vets will just go to that page and pass by everything anyway.

But then, that forum has more users than this one, so I don't know...

For me, the only confusing thing here is, the general Pulsar discussion. If the forum should be redone, I would like to see that one disapear, as it *interferes* to much with the other categories. Without it, it would be far easyer to place a new thread.

Hmm, that did not sound very positive - well, I tell you this, I LIKE THIS FORUM A LOT, AND THE ABOVE DOES NOT CHANGE A BIT, THAT I WILL PROBABLY KEEP ON COMMING BACK HERE FOR A LONG TIME INTO THE FUTURE! I am just saving my reply in the "is this the best... " till the thread has dumped a bit further down

My vote is for the STS thread. I don't agree that creating another forum would encourage frequent users to just visit their preferred forums. When I first visited Z it was because I was fed up with forums such as CW. The organisation and layout allowed me to immediately go to my particular topic and converse with people directly interested in it. However, upon finding out what a nice bunch you all are, I have explored other threads to see what you are all talking about and have found out a lot about my wondrous bit of kit. The result is that I now do things with Pulsar that I would have never dreamed possible and I now chat all over the forum.
Pulsar is a very big instrument with lots of facets; it needs to be broken down a bit to explore its many features.

Wise words of Samplaire.
The more forums the more you have to move around to be sure you've seen the relevant information.
Now it's simple to select on base of the titel of the tread.
And indeed, there should be (IMO) a certain 'general' base as a legitimation for a forum (except the endless modular).
So I would say 'no'.

One good thing with having many subfora is, that you get to scan thru less posts with a title like *help* (not a good title) to make shure, you find the relevant information for your situation. Also I am happy, there is not only a *general* forum here, because, even though I have had my Pulsar1 for quite some time, I have not yet had, what it takes to break the steep learnig curve. So I am glad, I can pass the i.e. modular forum for now, and enter it later. Also, as mentioned before, it is my experience, that people, when they get to like a multifora-forum, starts scanning most all of the subfora, but the quantity of subfora is a help to new people on a MB.

despite everyone who worries about "diluting" the forums i think one more about STS would be ok. STS is a whole group of samplers with quite a difference fromm the way normal DSP only creamware stuff works.
in this case i think it is a good idea to make a forum
called "STS samplers" or something like that.

It is a bit different from having a forum for every synth! one more forum is not going to harm any newcomer, in fact in this case it may help.

I think it is an excellent idea indeed! In fact, the STS is something so important and complex, it has so many possibilities to render onto our production power machinery, that it deserves a forum on itself!

I agree with those who say: “do not let it go to large”, because it could cause confusion, or just being tiresome at the end of the day. But anyway, we are far from been overloaded yet.

The STS is far too important! In fact, we all have it, but we do not use it fully because we don't know how. It's not an easy beast to get on. I think it absolutely merits a special place on this forum, no doubt for me.

Why do I prefer it that way people? Because the only thing you are doing creating an STS forum, is to organize the forum. It is not restrictive or encouraging to have it or not to have it. It is just to put a name to something we are anyway going to write and read about, but in an organized way.

Obviously, democracy is the way here, so this is just my personal opinion. What do you think about that?

Whatever you do John, it'll be right! Thanks forever!

As someone who would like to get more out of their STS3000, I would very much like there to be an STS section in this forum. If people are worried about it being too specific, maybe a 'Sampling' section might be better. It could include helpful tips from people like Eliam on how to get the best out of your sampler.

Cheers,
Will

STS forum ? Well, maybe. No one seems to talk about that much but is that because there's no forum ? Would a forum suddenly generate more posts ? That seems to have happened in the "tech" forum - all sorts of things that would never have made it into Z otherwise.

So yeah, why not.

ps: "general pulsar discussion" is my favourite area !

I also after some more considderation find *general discusion* an ok "ekstra". In the beginning, when I came here out of need, I had some difficulty finding the right spot to post at (and the *general discusion* played a role in that).
