it is now safe to turn off your computer
Hi Sandrob,
I feel really sorry for you, with all the problems you encounter lately. I wish they'd be over quick. But there's little I can do really about it, as you know probably as much as I do.
The link above says how to turn off your non-ACPI pc automatically, without that "You may now turn off..." message. ACPI is one thing that can auto-shutdown your pc fully, but people who disabled ACPI can still do it by installing the APM driver. It does the same for non-ACPI pc's.
If you're on an ACPI pc, it should shutdown automatically and you won't need the link.

There was a post explaining how to fix this some weeks ago (Subhuman of course). I don't find the messages now and I don't have winxp computer in front of me but it goes like this ... go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager - unfold the system devices - (and now comes the hard part I hope I remember this right) select ACPI fixed feature button (it should be disabled) and enable it. This should allow the OS to shut down normally...... Still it would be better to find the original post cause I'm not 100% if I'm remembering it right....!
I posted the link above, I think that's about the best you'll get here for non-ACPI pc's. The topic's by remixme, not Subhuman.
But hey, you yourself did a great job on explaining it for ACPI users. Thanks
Standard, the device should be Enabled. It doens't show normally, you'd have to select View->Show Hidden Devices in Computer Managment. It's under System Devices.

i try this but i didn't see nt apm/legacy support on devices list (with show hiden devices). then i download and instal apm driver. after "adding new hardware" i have but don't work properlyAn easier way to add APM back into a 'Standard PC' install: Device Manager, View, Show Hidden Devices.
Now, you should see NT Apm/Legacy Support as an item in your list, probably with a red x mark through it. Right click, and select Enable. That should be it, your computer can now shutdown properly.

have yellow ! on NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node and can't work properly!
btw: i think that's last thing what i must set in xp system. they allready working great
