I've got 2 x XP installs on my PC, (a 'test' install, and a 'clean' install). SFP installed fine on the 'test' XP, but I had the same problem others seem to have had here on my 'clean' XP install. And like others have since found out, it was due to the ASPI drivers. I used the aspichk to check on what aspi ver I had, on the 'test' XP it was ver4.6, and this was the XP that installed SFP without a hitch. Now when I ran aspichk on my 'clean' XP it reported that aspi wasn't installed (dunno why!?). Anyway, installing the latest aspi 4.7 fixed all for me (I'm a happy camper now!)
So a big thanks goes out to the whiz that worked out the aspi problem in the first place!!

So which XP user actually needs ASPI? Everyone with a cd player or only people with SCSI cdroms or something? I went to the Adaptec site, but didn't see anything obvious.

Dunno, I've just got a Acer 24x10x40 CDR, no SCSI........but it fixes the problem.

It's a bit strange but when I hadn't the ASPI driver, the livebar didn't react.
After the 4.7 ASPI update that problem seemed to be fixed.

Still I can't read my Akai cd's with SFP's filebrowser. I use CDXtract for copying the Akai programs to my harddisk.

Do you know if this has anything to do with my problem?

In XP it only detects a SCSI CDROM and not a SCSI CDR (which is what it is).

Here is some info I found on the 'official' forum from Ingo of Creamware:

We are glad that so many uses seem to like the new SFP software. We really did our best and spent much time for it.

Unfortunately there are some minor (I hope) problems. We will probably address these with a soon update patch, but we are still waiting and collecting bug reports and opinions.

Here are a few solutions for some known problems:

- SFP does not install under XP
It seems there are several possible reasons for this.
Make sure
* to unzip the downloaded file with 'Use folder names'
* to have the latest Adaptec ASPI driver installed if you use SCSI devices
* to have admin rights in XP
* the following system files are present: Advapi32.dll, comctl32.dll, GDI32.dll, Kernel32.dll, MSVCRT.dll, NTDLL.dll, RPCRT4.dll, USer32.dll, Winspool.drv (Mostly in system32)

- More devices installed than you have keys for:
The effect package 2 can be installed allthough you did not have a key for it. This causes problems when starting a sequencer in XTC mode, because the effects ask for a key. Please manually delete all effect dll's that belong to effect package 2 devices (see the list in the readme) in your VST plug-in folder.

"Missing" old devices (DynaMixer, BigMixer,..)
Use the devices from your Pulsar 3.01 installation

XTC I/O enabler does not work properly:
If this is the case on your system, ask our support for an updated file

- the device menu (Routing Window) does not load the device in some cases: load it from the Live Bar

- Sonar does not record properly: Make sure "PCM 32 Bit left-aligned" is selected in the Sonar audio options

A user on the CW forum found out, that extracting with winRAR would give errors, whereas winzip would not. Maybe test EnZip. It is a very nice (un)zipper, that is 100% free, has no adds and is not spyware (I feel, I am repeating myself ).
