Wow!
I suppose that the clubing and Trance purists may comment on some of the voicing choices, the drumkit(s) used, length of intro and so on, but for me this is a really superb track. I really enjoyed it and plan to give it a lot more ear time.

I never expected that kind of response. In all humility, I have to say I lack one vital point in composing this type of music: The Dancer's point-of-view. I'm not too keen on having to go clubbing just for study's sake. Also, at 45 I don't really think I'd even fit in...

Hey,
the guys in this forum have just got me out of this ageist self destruction mode of thinking.
I'm 49, been retired 7 weeks and I LOVE trance and club music. Having said that I daren't go clubbing either in case the police think I should be on a "register"

More trance from you please!

However there is too much reverberation in the whole mix. I would remove a bit reverb making the sound more dry. But, as always, that's my opinion...

The reverb is not that present in the .wav file you guys. Compression to MP3 will bring that sort of stuff out

Please somebody confirm this:
Because of the compression middle frequencies are more present. Reverb lies all over the spectrum in most of my mixes so they are brought out more through compression to MP3.

Paul, I really can't agree with you about the influence of mp3 encoding in the degree you suggest.
If it would change my music that mutch, I wouldn't even opload one single song in mp3...

If I check the difference between my AIF file (= wav on pc) and the mp3 of it (what I always do!), I almost can't hear any difference, humanly speaking

The difference is not the eq so mutch, moreover it is the depth in sound and cleanness that matters, and than in a very (very) subtile and for sure acceptable degree.
What mp3 algorhytm do you use anyway??
Could also be you just like reverberation...?

Hey Paul,

Interesting discussion. Perhaps you could attach to this thread a VERY small excerpt of your wave file (say the first 5 seconds, where the reverb is hugely obvious to me in the mp3). Wave files are giant, so please keep it short (I think stereo 44k 16 bit is like 172kb/second).

You can upload a 2nd file in this thread by editing your original post, and selecting a 2nd file, e.g. for the "notes", to submit.

Ok, I've listened to the file as much as I can without throwing up.

Conclusion: TOO MUCH REVERB! That's right, folks!

John, the first sound is meant to be a tiny bit drowned in reverb since it's part of that sound's design.

I am reposting this one later. I reduced the overall output of the reverb by 8.5db!! I changed the bass instrument(Muon Tau) to a Tritium and doubled it with the fabulous Dubsub. I also added a chockful of enhancements recommended by at0mic.

I guess my original mix was influenced by the fact that I listened to too many "Essential Mixes". Those files are loaded with reverbs, probably due to the "live" factor.

Very nice Paul, I particularly liked the first two minutes or so. Very nice building up. Its curious cos I never liked this kind of music, but here in the Z, I’m learning to appreciate it more an more. And this is one of the nicest I’ve heard here so far. Of course, don’t trust my hearing, cos I’m like you… I’m not a dancing man… I hear music as a musician, just like you do.

Now it's 1000 times better than before, Paul! Though I don't know if you could call it trance (I bet there are special rules about the groove, drums used, synth sounds etc.) but it's tasty and causes my feet move to the rhythm. Nice work! 8/10.

I think that the dreamy, wet-phaser, slightly angst-ridden intro deserves a song to itself instead of being forced aside by the dance imperative. It is real theme or soundtrack music. Perhaps the addition of some soft lyric could be good ?

In dance music terms I liked the break at 3:20 and the end. I'd also do a vicious re-edit and chop the whole thing back to four minutes.

But it does grow on you - I've had this looping for about 20 minutes now and I'm liking it more all the time.
